Musgrave Pencil Company Test Scoring 100 | 12-Pack Wood-cased Hexagonal Pencil

I discovered these because they were being used for standardized tests at my school (I'm a teacher.)They're so far superior to any other pencil I've encountered, that I won't use anything else now if I can help it. They write smoothly and well, are nicely dark without smudging excessively as some others do; and perhaps best of all, they are very easily sharpened (as opposed to the standard experience of uneven sharpening and the tip breaking off repeatedly just as the pencil is almost sharpened enough!)I guess it's the right mix of wood, graphite, etc.Yes, I'm a bit of a nerd, but not so much that I'd spend my time writing a review about pencils unless they were really great! These are best pencils made on the planet. They are testing pencils for schools for their standardized tests, but they are also great for everyday home use. The print is dark and you can actually read it! The eraser is perfect. I do a lot of crosword puzzles and logic puzzles and these are the only pencils I use.

Doing sudoku other pencils writing didn't show up very well

Pros: dark, solid line, writes smoothly.Cons: about 1/3 of the pencil leads were off-center. None were unusable, but these is some inconsistency.This pencil is a good budget alternative to the Palomino 602 or Blackwing Pearl. While not as well-made as those, it's about 1/3 of the price. I found it to be similar in darkness to the 602, not as dark as the Pearl. While the Palomino pencils are smoother, this is still a smooth pencil overall and very nice to write with. I was a bit surprised to find it was noticeably darker and smoother than the General's 580, which is my other favored 'budget' alternative (though those have a bit better wood and more consistent centering).Some people might find the sharp edges of full hex to be uncomfortable, I don't mind it but it's something to keep in mind. The barrel feels a bit bigger than the General's and Blackwings - not sure if this is just because of the rounded hex they used.I've heard a lot of people complain that this pencil is 'ugly', and I find that opinion surprising. It has a kind of midcentury retro aesthetic that is not elegant but has a lot of charm.

Beautiful and sleak pencils. Works perfectly for filling in circles on multiple choice tests to feed into a computer. What a throw-back.
