Love this cheap easy to use electric kettle
This works great for heating medium to large amounts of water. I use it to make tea and it’s super easy to use. The plug may draw a lot of power because one of my GFCI outlets in my kitchen tripped while it was plugged in so I’m using it on a non GFCI outlet and it’s working great. I would recommend it for anyone who makes tea or heats larger volumes of water. Basically the midline fill is hit when I empty my Brita pitcher into it from full. Simple easy and fast and wasn’t too expensive I’m happy. No special dials or controls though for water temperature which would have been nice but a helpful tip for making green tea which is better not being out directly into boiling temp water just fill a mug and let it sit for 3 minutes at room temp to cool down a bit and then toss in the tea bag.

Not so much on the color BUT Awesome performance and energy-efficient
Update: I love this thing so much that I wanted to provide an update. I use this at least twice a day, and more if I want boiling water for any cooking use at all. If I want to make pasta, boil potatoes, whatever, I put my kettle on and it is so much faster than waiting for a pot to boil, but I also put a little water in the pan on the stove and get it boiling, too, so that when I pour in my kettle's worth of hot water, I'm well ahead of the process. I've also had no problem with "rusting" or staining at all, my cord isn't heating up, and my only regret with this kettle is that I didn't get one sooner. Also, re the raisin color: it's still ugly, but I have found amusement in coming up with descriptions of the color, and the laughing offsets the ugly factor. There's always a silver lining. So, I got the Dark Purple because I was being cheap. It's my own choice, and I did not rate the color. This isn't dark purple. it's "raisin", and that means a weird browny/purple thing, and not my fav. But it was $10 less, and it's not horrid, and I didn't love the other "bright" colors either, and "midnight black" was as much of a risk as "dark purple". I use this as a preface to my review because, if you care about the color that much and raisin isn't your favorite shade, try another color. But that said... OMG! I already love this thing! it's easy to fill, it is SOOOOOOOO much faster than stovetop kettle (I had Le Creuset Zen model), and the stainless is so easy. I did a couple of test runs, and it is 2.5 minutes faster than stovetop for 2 cups of water (stovetop set at high). I also made soft-boiled eggs with the extra water. I put my room temp eggs in a pan, poured the boiling water over, and let sit for 8 minutes, no additional heat, and I got soft-boiled just the way I like them. I know 2.5 minutes savings' per day isn't going to save the world, but in a month, that's 75 minutes energy savings, and in a year, that's 900 minutes energy savings. Plus, I don't have to heat extra water for a soft-boiled egg. I'd highly recommend this kettle. I just have found no negatives (other than the not awesome raisin color, but that was my own choice, and some people may actually like the color). Also, I keep reading about rusting... stainless steel is called stainless because it's the least corrosive of all the metals, and with cookware and utensils it's great because it just doesn't normally rust. The inside of this kettle is 18/10 (that's the ratio of chromium to nickel and it's better than 18/8. Water can leave stains if there's a high rust content in your area. Also, hard water leaves its own kind of gunk. White vinegar rinse will help, and I always leave the top up and I don't leave water standing in mine because I hate the idea of stale water. So hope that helps anyone concerned about rust.

Superb, straightforward, plastic-free way to boil water!
I spent nearly two months trying to find a kettle that didn't have _any_ plastic inside in contact with the water. I read many dozens of online reviews and forums, and nothing quite made the cut. I wanted a glass or ceramic interior, because they're inert and won't flavor or contaminate the water, but that proved impossible; I decided stainless steel was a good alternative. (I'd been using a Le Creuset for the past 10 years but can no longer remove the scale from the inside and needed a replacement.) This kettle works beautifully and it's completely nontoxic, as the water contacts nothing but stainless inside. Note that some people have worried about a small circular hole at the top beneath the lid -- this is there so that the lid can close. When you're boiling water, that hole is completely blocked by the thickness of the lid as it closes; the interior of the lid is the same stainless steel as the rest of the interior. There is thus NO plastic that can be contacted by water or steam in this kettle. (See photos. The first shows the hole just beneath the rim, and the second shows that the thickness of the metal in the lid will completely block that hole.) I've been using the kettle multiple times per day and it works simply and beautifully. It boils water quickly, and it shuts off by itself once it's reached the boil. For those of you considering a kettle with temperature settings: (1) testing of such kettles indicates that most of them are off the desired temperature by as much as 10 degrees, defeating the purpose of setting it at different temps for different teas; and (2) I have a ThermoPop thermometer (not available through amazon, alas) and another less fancy one, and both of them indicate that once you pour the water out of the kettle, the temperature drops really quickly. If I pour into an open cup, the temp falls to ~180-185 degrees as soon as I've stopped pouring; the temp remains a bit higher in a closed teapot (and will differ depending on whether the teapot is glass, ceramic, or metal). So I'm not sure that even an accurate temp gauge on a kettle would be that useful.

Decent all purpose hot water kettle - one safety issue
The main negative on this appliance is that it fits too loosely in its base unit, rocking around a bit. Since the base is made of very light weight plastic the appliance feels a bit tippy, perhaps not ideal for families with young kids. Fortunately the old Hamilton Beach unit this replaced had a sturdier base which we opted to use instead; but the fit is still not ideal because the inset in the bottom of the Secura pot is a bit too shallow. For this reason I dinged the review one star for safety. If you want to be able to set an electronic thermostat, this is not the unit for you. It heats to a boil and switches off. Lighted switch tells you it's on. It holds lots of water, and heats it fairly quickly. So for most purposes it works fine, and less electronics means less to go wrong down the line. Its look is modern utilitarian, but it fits in well enough with other appliances on our counter. The ability to control the pour is fine, but of course a goose neck style would give someone reaching across a table to pour into tea cups more control. It's fine for pouring into anything directly in front of you: no drips or spills. It is light and easy to move around. The outside plastic insulated cover is easy to clean and keeps the heat inside the pot and away from your hands. The all stainless steel interior that keeps the water completely independent of plastics is a genuine plus. This may be the only unit available with this feature. In reading reviews of different model electric kettles, many people don't seem to realize that boiling water leaves a a residue (scale) in the bottom of the pot. This is not rust! If you don't want scale then using only distilled water would be needed. The scale is easy to clean from the unit. Over all, the family is happy with this product and would buy it again. I can't speak to longevity as we've only owned it a few weeks. Our Hamilton Beach lasted 3-4 years. We will see on this one.

Excellent, Excellent Product! Boils Water Perfectly!
Last summer I stayed with a friend in Chicago on vacation. Like me, he drinks tea except he used an electric kettle to heat up water. At my home, I was using a standard stainless steel pot on a fire stove to heat water up. However, at times I was so consumed with being on the computer or working on a project or what-have-you that I'd forget the pot was on the stove and te water boils out and burns the pot. After seeing my friend with his (smaller) electric kettle, I decide that once I got back home that I'd look into an electric kettle for myself. That's where this Secura SWK-1701DB (black) electric kettle comes in. As I write this review, I've had this kettle for exactly 6 months now. I believe in sitting with a product or service for several weeks or months of use before writing a review. Things can be honky-dory at first, but over time that can change. So, I chose this kettle because it holds a big amount 1.8 quarts (57.6 ounces) of water for those occasional times where I may have company over at the house to serve people. Otherwise, I use this kettle almost everyday to heat up 2 cups (16 ounces) of water for a big cup of tea. When I first tested this kettle at full capacity (3 times), it took 6 minutes every single time at full capacity to heat the water up to a boil. However, given that I only heat up 2 cups of cool water almost everyday, it takes only 3 minutes to heat the water to a boil and it shuts off like normal. I no longer have to worry about the fireburner on the stove and the water possibly boiling out of the pot if I get distracted. That is a HUGE BIG PLUS of using this kettle! Also, I am able to plug in and use the kettle in my room instead of being in the kitchen, too. So, when the water is ready I always hear the water come to a boil and then a "click" sound when it shuts off and the water is ready (212 degrees fahrenheit). The clear switch has an embedded orange LED light which comes on when you press it to turn the kettle on and the light turns off when the water comes to a boil and is ready. This kettle is very safe and boils water perfectly every time. It does have a safety feature of shutting down if you overfill the kettle with water beyond the safety line that is visibly scored into the stainless steel interior of the kettle. After 6 months of continuous and almost daily use, this kettle is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The PERFECT electric kettle!!!
Love my water kettle so much! For years I heated water in microwave for each cup of tea...so very inconvenient but seemed easier than using the quality tea kettle I own on stove top for each cup of tea. If u want boiling water for any reason, only a few xtra seconds and u have it! I have started using it to boil water for use in cooking as it is lightning fast. I heat the water in this amazing kettle, and then pour it into my cooking pan on stove top. With my new electric kettle, it is so easy to fill w water enough for several cups, and use it to heat water to perfect temp for each cup of tea. It does not get warm on the outside, anywhere, the toggle on/off switch is so easy to toggle on and the water gets heated to perfect temp in a snap...so much faster than my old kettle, which is NOT electric. This electric kettle is gorgeous for my kitchen counter and does not take up a burner on my stove. It is so lightweight in terms of use and I love that it separates from its heating element and is therefore cordless when I go to pour hot water into my tea cup. It is all stainless steel internally, so my heated water is not exposed to fumes from any plastic parts, including the spout, also stainless steel. The gorgeous light weight plastic is only on the exterior of kettle, which makes it very easy to lift and light weight. It is a clever and PERFECT design and reasonably priced for a very quality kettle, which truly does make my days easier. Thank you so much! I would buy another if needed and highly recommend! I drink tea all day long and this kettle makes the prep experience so much more pleasant. I used to dread the tea making process and now look forward to it as much as drinking tea. My only complaint is I would’ve preferred a white color, and tho u offer a pretty white one, it was unavailable at time of my order. Thank you very much for my awesome electric kettle!

Fast, But leaks onto base and countertop
Super inexpensive and boils water FAST, but...makes a mess. Water continues to boil non-stop and bubbles out holes in weird locations like at the lid opening lever and the power switch. Leaves water on the counter top after it boils, but if you jump up and run over and turn it off right before the boil, maybe less so... Gets all over the base of the kettle and the countertop 60% of the time...In addition, steam escapes from area around said lever so it's easy to get a burn if you're not careful. I bought it to match my kitchen - color choice is amazing.

No plastic
Very nice, solid stainless steel kettle. No glass spout to chip or plastic window to leak. Fill lines are stamped into the interior wall. The exterior gets warm but will not burn skin.
