Why is there only one strain in these ?

Not really a question other consumers can answer. Their liquid probiotic has many strands and tastes like water. You get more bang for your buck with the liquid version. My kids 3, 5, 7 all like it.

Is there a sugar-free version?

Take a look at the liquid version they offer. In all of my searching, Mary Ruth offers the best sugar ratios on the market (if you want ingredients you can trust)

Is it strange that these have been sold out on their website but always available on Amazon?

I'm guessing they may have allocated a certain amount for Amazon to keep in stock. If so, it wouldn't be strange.
