First written in response to a JACT survey of over 100 schools, and now endorsed by OCR, this textbook has become a standard resource for students in the UK and for readers across the world who are looking for a clear and thorough introduction to the language of the ancient Greeks. Revised throughout and enhanced by coloured artwork and text features, this edition will support the new OCR specification for Classical Greek (first teaching 2016). Part 1 covers the basics, whilst Part 2 introduces a wider range of grammatical forms and constructions, with a vocabulary of 435 words and reading material from Socrates and the Sophists to the world of myth, and finally to extended passages of lightly adapted Herodotus. Practice passages, exam papers and revision sentences for GCSE complete Part 2, which has a reference section covering the whole course. Written by a long-time school teacher and examiner, this two-part course is based on experience of what pupils find difficult, concentrating on the essentials and on the understanding of principles in both accidence and syntax: minor irregularities are postponed and subordinated so that the need for rote learning is reduced. It aims to be user-friendly, but also to give pupils a firm foundation for further study. Review: Do not buy if you're NOT buying this for use as a student enrolled in a class using this text. - I cannot recommend purchasing this book for the same reasons as Part 1: there is no answer key. What good is a book to teach you Greek if you can't tell if you've done the exercises correctly or not? I have tried several times to contact the publisher. There does exist an answer key, but they won't give it to me. There is a site where you can request access to it electronically. However, I received an email saying my request had been denied. I also tried contacting the publisher directly through writing to them on their corporate website. No reply. Review: Like part 1 this is an excellent textbook - Prompt delivery. Like part 1 this is an excellent textbook. I used it as I had to revive what little Greek I knew for a classical M.A. quickly. I had used 'Reading Greek' many years a go. I would say this is a quicker and more efficient way to rapidly acquire a good working knowledge of ancient Greek,The grammatical explanations are very clear and I even found my self doing the English-Greek exercises. Not just for those taking G.C.S.E. !

Metodo ben fatto!
In Italia ormai il greco è diventata un materia più che ostica. Di chi sarà la colpa? Sempre degli studenti fannulloni e pigri? Con questo libro ci si rende conto che bisogna cambiare metodo di insegnamento. Andare a sbirciare cosa fanno nel mondo anglosassone per ottenere risultati è un'idea da non sottovalutare e con questo libro si assolve al problema!

textbook for learning ancient Greek
The book is part 2 of a two volume series leading the beginner up to university entry level in ancient Greek. While not the most interesting ancient Greek textbook on the market... I prefer Mastronardi's Introduction to Attic Greek, or the Oxford Press's Athenaze, it is effective in presenting the grammatical essentials of that ancient language. One annoying aspect is the edition's use of orange ink for important words... making them less readable than if they had used black or dark green for example.

This is an excellent book, just the right level and it was so useful to be able to see inside and read the reviews before buying.
