Solar Shields work as advertised! They are great with my Lacrosse temp/humidity sensors.!
Worked very well with fitting my 2 Lacrosse Temp/Humidity sensors. They both read the same exact temp/RH and dewpoint and compare very close to accurate against nearby PBI ASOS station. Resolved my old problems with mounting in the shaded areas. I have both shields with plastic tie straps to the overhang protected open balcony railing NW side of my second floor apt. with very little sunshine. Thank you Amazon for having this item available. It was a big plus for my temp/RH barometer weather stations! Now I can save real accurate Temp/RH and Dewpoint weather data.

Convenient device to shield temperature sensor from direct sunlight yet ventilate
Good way to ventilate sensor but protect it from direct sun light. Easy to install -- just push sensor up into the device and it clicks in place. Sunlight and heat over time take a toll on this shield but it lasted several years before the internal clip became brittle and broke. Sensor remained working and easily installed in the new shield.

Does the job
I bought this to use as a sun shield for a Unni outdoor temperature sensor. The sensor easily snapped into the top of this shield, and I hung it from a tree branch in the back yard. It is sturdy, easy to use and does the job. The only negative comment I have is the price is on the high side but these days everything is expensive and at least this one cost less than similar ones by competitors.

Lightweight, Good Protection from the Elements
This is a review of the AcuRite 06054M Solar Radiation Shield I know this shield was designed to hold and protect the AcuRite brand sensors, but I bought it in the hope that it would hold my La Crosse brand temperature/weather sensors, and I’m happy to report that the La Crosse sensors fit perfectly. Whoever designed these solar shields knew what they were doing, when they fitted them with a simple, but clever securing system, consisting of a membrane of flexible plastic located just below the top interior of the plastic shield. The sensor is inserted upright into the cowbell-shaped shield, through the open base of the shield. The La Crosse sensors are just under 5.75” high, and the shield measures about 6.5” from it’s base to it’s interior dome. The membrane that holds the sensor in place is located approximately 0.5” below the interior dome. This is just enough space to allow the “ears” of the membrane to surround and establish a decent grip on the top of the sensor. As noted earlier, the membrane is flexible, but it’s just firm enough to get a decent grip on the sensor. This permits both easy installation and removal of the sensor. The shield’s overlapping louvers allow air to flow through it, while keeping sun, rain and snow away from the sensor. There are several ways to mount the shield: by utilizing the built-in plastic loop at the top exterior of the shield, it can be affixed to a shepherd’s pole, or hung from a tree branch via a monofilament, or other, line; or by using the slotted tabs located near the top rear of the shield, to hang it on a wall, or a tree, via a nail or screw. The shield only weighs about 7.75 ounces (empty), so it doesn’t take much to hold it in place. I would have purchased the La Crosse brand solar radiation shield, since I have La Crosse brand sensors, but they were no longer available, as of this writing. Overall, I’m happy with the AcuRite shields, even though they are a little bit pricier than I had hoped. I’ve submitted a few photos, some of which I’ve labeled. I hope they help answer a few questions that you might have.

Great product but WAY Overpriced
Bad News: The full price of this sun shield is more than any of the sensors it is designed to protect. The color of the plastic is not full white. Good News: It occasionally goes on sale for $10 to $15 less. It well protects the sensors. The off-white color hides the pollution a little longer that will darken the plastic over time, if you don't clean it every few months.

Simple but Effective
My sensor was mounted in the same location as an expensive National Weather Service sensor but was displaying higher than the NWS readings. By placing it in this enclosure and protecting the sensor from solar radiation, the readings came within a degree of each other. Even though my sensor had been hung in the shade in a northern exposure, the solar radiation still affected it. It's a simple device but appears to be of decent quality and works well. It's size and design makes its appearance unobtrusive.

Fits other brand remote monitors
Purchased this item before to house an AcuRite brand outdoor sensor and protect it from the elements. It is attached to the back of my shed where it is protected from sun and somewhat from weather. It has held up for several years. The plastic hasn't become brittle and I have removed the sensor a few times to replace batteries. I was concerned that the plastic clip inside this housing would eventually break or become brittle from the repeated yanking in and out of the sensor but it is just as good as the day I put it up. Compared to the brand new one, the only thing I noticed was that the older one has yellowed just a bit. In the photo, the old is on the left and new on the right. Here's the best part. Some other brands of outdoor sensors have a similar shape and design and fit perfectly into this housing. Because I now have two weather stations, and they are two different brands, I can see that they are very accurate, or at least within a point or 2 of one another. I was able to test the best location and can say that exposure to sun, even a small bit, will drastically increase the outdoor temperature reading. If it is placed too close to the ground, the humidity tends to read higher as well. I use metal siding clips to hang these solar shields from the back of my shed which has double-lap siding and receive the metal clips easily. Once they're hung, there is no movement that I've noticed from wind or weather.

I bought this Acurite Radiation Shield/Cage for a different brand of thermo-hygrometer to the one it is designed for, as I knew that the generous dimensions of the internal void would accommodate my sensor. I was impressed by the quality of the this Shield which is quite a sturdy unit. The Acurite Shield, which arrives fully assembled, is actually constructed from a set of moulded white plastic louvre sections of tapering sizes with plastic latches that enable each section to click firmly into the next. These louvre units can easily be dis-assembled, if necessary, to assist in any modifications, which I needed to do in order to drill some fixing holes for my own cross piece that I screwed onto the internal top plate from which to hang my thermo-hygrometer sensor. The design protects your sensor from rain and also minimises erroneous readings due to direct sunlight but allows the air to flow through. I can recommend this unit.
