Best Purchase of the Year!
iFi xDSD Gryphon is one of the best purchases I've made this year. BT mode is excellent and has LDAC + many more. The sound quality is amazing, and when plugged in using USB, it gets even better. This is a slightly warm dac/amp, and has a few different sound effects, each one has its own benefits. It is built strong, feels it's price, but I just really want to talk about why I love it. I tried many iem's and headphones on it, but it took 3 iem's that I liked, but haven't listened to them as each one had 1 or 2 issues, and the gryphon fixed their issues, and they are now used daily. The Fearless Rui S6 lacked bass, and was thin in the midrange, though it had beautiful vocals, great treble extension, and good bass control. When I finally settled on putting it on the XBass+(front) and the switch in the rear on XSpace with the filter GTO, Wow! Instantaneously I fell in love. On all genres. But the vocals are simply divine with great details. Then I tried, LetShuoer EJ07m x Hbb, a great iem, another great balanced iem with a little too much in the upper mids, some female vocals got harsh, and it lacked that sparkle in the treble, though stage was good, bass well controlled. But I found it boring, with the settings set to: XBass+ in front and in the back lifted up to bass+presence with it on GTO. Again, wow, a wonderful balanced with a great sub and midbass, female vocals sound amazing and natural. Treble is slightly lifted giving it sparkle, the mids are delightful. And finally the ibasso IT01s, a single dynamic, that had two issues, the nozzle was too large, that was an easy fix, just unscrewed the nozzle filter and took it off, but it was so perfectly balanced and neutral that it was quite bland/boring. Putting it on the STD effect, using XBass+ front and XBass on back. Cannot believe this is a single dynamic. The details are crisp, great space between instruments (that darkness) imaging is great, bass is impactful, reaches down low with just enough warmth to give the mids richness, vocals are intimate and sweet, treble is right on, sparkle and air. It's the best single DD I've ever heard now, so rich and full sounding like a pair of headphones. I tried about 30 iem's and 6 headphones. But I was looking for something for my iem's. As I wasn't listening too much with them, as I was in headphone land, lol. The gryphon changed that for me. Also on sensitive iem's there is some noise, but there's a switch on the bottom of the unit that you can use to dial down this issue, so it makes it even more appealing to use. What else can I say, it made me start using my iem's again. If I could go back in time, this would be the only portable dac/amp I would need to buy. Worth every penny of it's price

I can't believe it's only $599. Amazing Swiss Army Knife
I love this portable DAC/Amp! The Gryphon keeps surprising me with its capabilities. What I enjoy most about the Gryphon, which is made possible by its amazing DAC is the amplifier filters: XBass & XSpace. There are some albums that I tried to listen to for the past two years but I couldn't enjoy them due to the way they were mastered. Not really done well. With the Gryphon you can make analog corrections. Need more bass, no problem. Need mids to be more forward, no problem! Need some more instrument separation, you got it (albeit you'll really only notice the impact with intimate headphones, like the Focal Clears). It is super clear, natural sounding, and musical! I so enjoy listening to it on its own, whether it's classical, new age, contemporary jazz, it's so much fun. It is also powerful enough to drive my Hifiman Arya SE with no issue and plenty of headroom, using the 4.4mm balanced jack, which I recommend. But their single-ended 3.8mm jack is also very good, shockingly good. It is also able to be used as a preamp to power speakers or feed into another amplifier. This pairs very well with a tube amplifier. I'm currently doing a 3.8mm line out from the Gryphon into my WA7 Fireflies 3rd gen (RCA input) and it sounds amazing!!! With XBass turned on for albums that need it, it's a godsend. Lastly, another favorite feature is desktop mode. You can have it run off of usb charging cable and stop charging the battery. This is my primary use case until I need to travel and need to bring my music experience with me. The Gryphon makes it super easy. Whether I'm at the hotel or visiting friends/family, for a long stay, the Gryphon is a fabulous on-the-go solution. Do yourself a favor, if you are on the fence, just buy it and try it out for 30 days. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Good product outperformed by its smaller sibling
I have both the ifi Gryphon and the ifi hip dac3. On paper, the Gryphon should be the clear winner , given its more powerful amp and more features such as an xbass switch for both midrange and bass ,as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The gryphon also features a nice Lighted display for indicating streaming quality. However, in practice I prefer the warmer sound of the hip dac3 which is considerably less expensive but without as many features. I principally use both for streaming Apple Music from my iPhone. The typical headphones I use are Meze109pro, sennheiser HD660s2, or 7hz timeless IEMs. The gryphon lacks the hip dac3’s power match switch which in its absence limits the headphone volume, negating the advantage of a more powerful amp. On its own, the Gryphon is an ok product, albeit kind of expensive, and outperformed by its less expensive sibling. My 2 cents….(pictured next to hipdac3 stealth)

THE GRYPHON will not disappoint
just got my gryphon in an it sounds beyond phenomenal compared to my ifi audio ihip2 dac. so let's talk bout my favorite things so far. I love how the bass is a clean midbass the highs are highlighted beautifully. the sharpness n clarity is on point. at first I was worried about cause I was going to BT connectivity but when I say I'm beyond suprised I'm almost in shock. now mainly because we all know main connectivity of cables usually is better but Ifi audio you did your homework 😉 there is no loss of quality at all. now let's talk about the processes you can do xbassII now I feel this is more for old skool rock n roll or even edm the bass is definitely more concentrated on which it should be. the highs are still there but not as highlighted. xspace: now that was interesting to hear almost kind of reminds me of Dolby Atomos an the way the sound is staged in a room honestly. but the highs are there the bass has that nice punchy midbass it doesn't get lost in mid frame of the song. xspace&xbassII : now this I feel is your main setting you want if you just want it all n you plan on listening to a variety of diffrent kinds of music. now let's talk sound quality in this setting because for my ears it's almost hard to pinpoint how you'd call this because all the frequencies just blend together so beautifully (don't believe me go listen to the Aladin song a whole new world) let me explain why because your playing a song that had sharpness in vocals high frequencies rising n lowering in various pitches , the midbass flows nicely in between the vocals so clean n crisp clarity. the piano 🎹 at the very beginning of the song sounds like you are right there at a venue listening to center stage. now what bout no setting just as flat still sounds just as good but you will hear the diffrence in your vocal frequencies. An lastly I tested the gryphon on two diffrent sets of headphones first were the pioneer Hdj-x10s because it wanted to see how the bass 🔊 output would Stat with them. next I tested the Beyerdynamic Dt 700 pro x. now we're going to a more flat style headphone more Sq side of things so first thing you'll notice your volume will sound a little tad bit lower but it's almost impossible to notice. the clarity n highs are much sharper which is as expected. the midbass is nice n clean with no lost rolloff into the vocals. on no setting. xspace: again kind of gives me the feeling of that Dolby atmos atmospheric sound staging not bad though for the Beyerdynamic's sounds much better then the pioneers much more balanced from vocals midbass tones overall. xspacexbassII: now even though these headphones 🎧 are not meant for big bass output let's talk about it so I can definitely hear the pickup in the vocals n clarity 👌. the xbassII as well with this setting I feel like it almost gets lost but again these headphones 🎧 are not meant for bass so it's as expected. the clarity is still very nice n sharp while instruments sound very crisp clear n sharp. overall my rating of the gryphon : I'd say a 4.7 out of 5 star now reason why didn't score 5 stars. I will miss my volume style knob that doesnt just keep rolling. this is something I will definitely have to get used to. the rolling volume knob to go round n round something will have to be a company to. songs that were used to test this review. Lea Salonga: a whole new world(Disney's aladin) Elton John: can you feel the love tonight ( Disney's lion king) David Guetta: Hero Avicii: Waiting for Love R.e.m. : Losing my religion The pretenders: I'll stand by you. Eric Clapton: Tears in heaven. Richard Marx: Right here waiting.

Potential issues with Apple USB C phones, may cost another $100 for connection bundle
So the 1 star, its so buyers will read this as related to Apple USB type phones and the ifi support system. For reference I have an Iphone 15 Pro Max (IOS 18.4.1) that started the switch to USB ported Apple phones. Hopefully others can report in that they have no issues, and if so I can modify parts of this review. The included manual says to use an official Apple Camera accessory with USB-C to Lightning Adapter ("Apple Dongle") to connect the Gryphon to Apple USB C phone. Nowhere is this mentioned before you buy this product, and it costs another $100 ordering from Amazon. Once you have the Apple Dongle, and connect the 2 devices the Iphone messages "Accessory Not Supported". Researching this with help of AI there does appear to be an issue (with Apple USB phones) and it reports: 1) Lightning to USB Camera Adapter -> Does not support data transfer and shows "unsupported device" error and 2) USB-C to Lightning Adapter provides limited support for data transfer. I spent days on this, worked through all of the iFi related pages for self help, common issues, etc. and no solution. Direct USB C to USB C option is not suggested in the manual. Regardless, tried the direct connect and iphone shows "Cannot Use Accessory - This accessory uses too much power". Again spent time with different connects, etc. but no solution. Answer: Gryphon works with PC using a provided cable. No problem but it is a portable device. Finally figured out if you turn off the Gryphon "USB Dual Port Charge" option that came as a default "ON" (allows charging while connected to your source/music) you can use the provided USB C to C connection with the IPhone. No more "uses too much power" notifications as the Gryphon is no longer looking to charge itself while connected the the USB ported IPhone. The Camera Adapter recommended in the manual does not work and as for now is an "unsupported device". As to my experience, either new Gryphon firmware or wait for a possible Apple IOS update is only option here. iFi Support: You write up a "ticket" and submit it. I wrote a very detailed ticket describing the issues, and informing them that I have gone through the manual and web based protocols to fix any issues (app update, turn Gryphon on first, use official Apple, etc.). 1st response: "Just to confirm, which USB port are you using on the Gryphon? It sounds like you may be using the charging port instead of the data port. We suggest using the data port to see if that make s a difference". Really? I responded that I was very familiar with product after troubleshooting the issues, and believe this to be an ongoing problem that iFi should be aware of as it pops up on WEB searches. i also included pictures of the issues. 2nd response: "Did you update your iOS before this happened? When Apple releases a new update, this can cause issues with USB devices that are connected to the phone. It usually take a few days for Apple to release a new update addressing these issues. Is your Gryphon working properly with a PC?". So after days of waiting it is a iphone issue response and there is no real solution coming from iFi (waiting on an IOS Apple update is not a solution). My response was to let them know that talking to a person would cut through the days of emails, that the answers to my issues were simplistic and offered no real insight or detail considering the detail provided and what can be searched and found on WEB, and it is very disappointing support after purchasing such an expensive product. In the end iFi should at minimum: let smart phone buyers know that their default recommended connection will cost you another $100! Also the default connection does(?)/can have(?) issues with Apple USB C phones. Their support system is all too familiar these days with no person to person contact and day(s) between exchange of emails. iFi should do much better and could have already easily related the research that I did into a device setup document to inform current buyers

Sound Quality
The IFI xDSD Gryphon is far the best portable DAC that I have owned. I've been using this DAC mostly with my Westone Audio Mach80s. While listening to music I find myself smiling due to the the great quality of the sound. I also find that it pairs well with my Beyerdyanmics Tp5s which draws one even more into the sound. I will not use any adjective to describe the sound I hear and feel, because music is felt differently, heard and is dependent on you spirit and ears. I would recommend these to anyone that has high quality headphone/IEMs. It is like having the iFi xDSD signature on the road. Pros: Sound Quality. Battery life. Inputs and output. Ease of use. Cons: A bit expensive. Size is a bit large, but this is due to the battery which give you hours of enjoyment. It's a trade off in the pro/con. What I would have liked to see on this unit would to be for it to display the Track info instead of the format/quality which is displayed by the color the LEDs on the unit even though you can see track information from the source. The fact that it streams nicely via the LDAC Bluetooth source, I would like to see the track information if my source is not near me physically. All in all it is a great unit and I would highly recommend anyone looking to purchase a new portable DAC!

The best audio purchase I've made in a long time!
I've had the Gryphon for a couple of weeks now and I couldn't be happier! The first thing you should do is make sure you have the latest firmware installed, I did it and the Gryphon has worked flawlessly! The construction is excellent! You realize right away that you are getting what you are paying for, and change! I really like the design, all competing products look the same, just a black box. The Gryphon has style and personality! This product is like a Swiss Army Knife! Does everything! Wired DAC/Amp, Bluetooth DAC/Amp, Line In, Line Out, Digital Input, Analog Bass Boost and XSpace, IEM compatibility, Analog volume control and OLED Display!, It handles all the formats, PCM 768, DSD512, and MQA decoder! I love that I can use it around the house, take it to the office where I use it wired on my desktop and even take it with me on the road! The battery lasts about 8 hours depending on the headphones I pair it with. My only wish for improvement is for it to have fast charging, but not a deal breaker since I just leave it charging overnight. It can move anything! From my 64 Audio U12t IEMs to my Sennheiser HD 800S without sweating! The sound is excellent! Warm, detailed, it provides a lot of information and allows you to discover details in your music that you have not noticed before. I was also impressed with how good and detailed it sounds via Bluetooth when using LDAC code. Simply put, the Gryphon is the best audio product I've ever owned!

This Gryphon is a beast.
I love this device I have had it every day for over a year and it keeps chugging along. And I treat it worse than a rented mule. The sound signature is basically neutral with a slight warmth that seems to be a part of the if I house sound. The Bluetooth has performed flawlessly. With 1000mw on the 4.4mm and 320mw available on the 3.5mm. This device powers my Sennhieser HD600s in 3.5mm as well as my Beyerdynamic DT1990 with no issues at all. This is a great solution who wants hifi audio on the go. Highly, highly recommended if you have the bux.

It`s an Audio Beast
Not as portable as Qudelix 5k, but definetely a sonical upgrade. It`s just pity iFi do not offer any serious Android/Apple app to control this device. UPDATE AFTER MONTH USE Display is made of plastic which scratch very easily. As there is no case included (just bag), in a short time Gryphon do not look just good as you want...

Excellent DAC from iFi
I own two iFi Hip-DAC 2 in addition to the recent addition of the XDSD Gryphon. I use these DACs to drive a pair of Sennheiser HD660S and a pair of Focal Clear MG headphones. Both headphones have balanced connections to the DACs and both DACs are driven using USB cables. The sound from the XDSD Gryphon feels more sonically accurate to my ears and they seem to drive both sets of headphones very well. As the XDSD Gryphon is USB C connected, it's unnecessary to use an USB OTG cable if both ends of the audio chain connect with USB C - this simplifies connection to phones. The display simplifies understanding the format and bitrate of the audio that's currently playing (something that I appreciate even more as Tidal is switching it's catalogue to hi-res FLAC from MQA. I have not used Optical or line-in for the Gryphon so I can't comment on how those perform. All in all I consider this to be a great purchase.

Sehr gutes Upgrade / Tolle neue Features
