An ethereal fantasy from the editorial team behind the New York Times bestselling series The Ancient Magus’ Bride The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún is an all-new manga series that pulls readers into a magical and enchanting tale about a young girl and her demonic guardian. A haunting story of love and fantastical creatures, The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún is a gorgeously-illustrated manga series. Each volume in the series will be released with a beautifully-textured matte finish cover and will include at least one full-color insert. In a world split between the Inside and the Outside, those living in both realms are told never to cross over to the other side, lest they be cursed. A young girl named Shiva lives on the other side, in a vacant village with a demonic guardian known only as “Teacher.” Although the two are forbidden to touch, they seem to share a bond that transcends their disparate appearances. But when Shiva leaves Teacher’s care to seek out her grandmother, the secret behind her mysterious living arrangement comes to light. Review: So. Much. Haunting, engrossing slice of life story in a fantasy setting
Inhabitants of the Inside must never cross to the Outside, on fear of being cursed by the monstrous ones exiled beyond the walls. However among an abandoned village in the forest an Outsider watches over a young child from the other side in seeming harmony… This is a fantastically unique manga, with a slice of life feel within a dystopian setup. It features a cursed monster and a little girl he’s acting as guardian for going about their daily lives amidst more significant and perilous developments building in the background. I found it to be wonderfully told, with atmospheric, stylistic art and just the right pacing. The little touches and details of what’s depicted let this shine, and I already really care about the two leads. In some ways this reminds me a bit of the webcomic Hemlock in feel, although obviously the story and setup are quite different. So far The Girl from the Other Side builds around a wonderfully simple core concept with an intriguing world and strong emotional context to give its tale depth. This volume ends with a rather big cliffhanger, which makes me even more curious to read what’s next. Great start.

Looking forward to reading more!
What a mysterious, dark, and somehow sweet first volume. The art is interesting and the story has me intrigued; I will continue with volume two! Also, I read this in October, and it's a perfect spooky but not scary read for the season.

A beautiful series
In a world of those cursed who live outside the wall and those who live inside the wall in fear of being cursed, The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún is a quiet fairy tale about a young girl, Shiva, who was abandoned in the forest by her aunt and raised by one of the Outsiders (those who are cursed) who she calls Teacher. Teacher goes to great lengths to protect Shiva from both other Outsiders and himself (all it takes is one touch from an Outsider to become cursed), and Shiva spends her days waiting for her Auntie to come take her home. Teacher knows that there is very little chance that Shiva's aunt will ever come to bring her home, so he tries his best to fill Shiva's days with lessons and fun. When a mysterious Outsider invades their home and touches Shiva, Teacher and Shiva embark on a journey to discover the source and possible cure of the curse. Unbeknownst to either, Shiva may be at the center of a prophecy of the church of those on the Inside, and Teacher may have to go extremes he didn't know possible to protect Shiva. But is Shiva a child of the Inside or the Outside, and is her role in the balance of darkness and light beyond Teacher's control? I absolutely love this series. The art is beautiful and the story is paced perfectly, a nice balance of quiet tranquil storytelling and the urgency that Teacher feels in keeping Shiva safe. The mystery surrounding Shiva and her role in the battle between the darkness and the light is intriguing. I will definitely be picking up subsequent volumes in this series.

Just read this and so far it is very good. Reminds me a lot of the ancient magus bride, you have a girl (small child) and some kind of cursed beast that is taking care and protecting the girl after she was abandoned. It seems like a sad but kind of cute story like the ancient magus bride, it's got that dark atmosphere but still has cute scenes. This is all based off the first volume so the cute scenes could very well go away depending how the story goes after the last page.

10/10 Will Read Again
It is one of those stories that catches you off guard because it really isn't like any other story I've ever read. This is a very original idea even though I was told otherwise before reading it. A friend of mine compared it to The Ancient Magus Bride and I could see how she thought that with only reading the description and seeing the picture. So, if anyone was worried about that don't be. It just happens that this main character and the main character from the other story both have monster "mentors". I would highly suggest still reading this! It definitely grabs your attention and draws you in. But it isn't so in your face with information that you get lost and don't want to continue reading. It has a very light feeling so to say with a serious problem going on. It's cute, sad, and a good read. I will be buying the next volumes as they come out and so should you.

Great story, great artwork, love the aesthetic. If anything happens to Shiva or her demonic dad, teacher, in the next volume I will cry.
