No, the bottom has buttons that fold a flap on each side forward when baby is forward facing, allowing space for their legs.

How long can you wear the carrier before it begins to hurt?

Honestly, it should never hurt you no matter how long you’ve had it on. If it’s properly adjusted to your body and according to instructions, it should not be hurting one bit. If it does hurt you, then you need to make sure it’s correctly adjusted to your body. Most times when it hurts it’s because instructions were not followed or it was incorrectly adjusted

I'm traveling alone with my 2 year old. Would this be a good option to have for the airport/plane ride? He's under 40lbs.

I think it might.  Here is my experience. I used it for my 10month old (20lbs, 24 inches) last month. I also bought it for the airport/plane ride. The pockets were great to keep my stuff (eye drops, chapstick, phone, and vicks for the dryiness of the plane) and the baby's stuff (small toys, teether, some wipes).  The baby was comfortable in it, slept most of the flight to and from our destination. The only thing for me  in terms of comfort: wear sleeves because the straps irritate the skin (I was sleepless going to our destination) and the straps are long so you may have to tuck them in if you are short like I am (5'2").  This month I have used the back carry option for walks around our block and he likes that as well.

What's with the pricing? It literally went from about 20.00 to 44.00 as I was looking at it!
