i bought the 6 x 6 plain foam boarder silicone dressing, dont this company make a 4x4 plain too,dont know all these other kind

Is the layer next to the wound sticky?

The whitish area (absorbent layers) should be place on wound. The rest of the dressing should be place over skin around wound. The wound facing surface of this dressing is sticky all over BUT it can not stick to wound. The reason it adheres to skin but not to wounds is: silicone does not stick to moist surfaces. That's why if you put your finger anywhere on the wound facing surface (side) of this dressing, it will stick to your finger. But if you make your finger moist first, then no part of that surface will stick to your finger. We hope this example make it easier to understand.

How many days can the bandage be left in place?

There is no fixed duration that can be mentioned. On average users change dressing from 1 to 4-5 days. Part of this variation is because wounds produce different amount of discharge. The more discharge is there, the sooner the dressing has to be changed. You do not want to keep a soaked dressing over a wound. When dressing feels heavy and soaked, it needs to be changed. Another important thing is wounds are very dynamic. They can go through different changes including infected. Look out for development of maceration and/or development of grayish or greenish discharge (highly suggestive of infection) under the dressing. That is why even if the discharge is not heavy or soaked, it is prudent to remove the dressing in 4-5 days and and to check the wound for these unwanted developments.
