Do not know what keratin treatment is,but the plates close against each other tight.

Does this flat iron snag or pull your hair? And does the outside of the unit get hot?

No it does not snag or pull your hair. It actually works pretty awesome. Usually any hair straightener gets a little warm on the outside but no it doesn't get hot.

How do you use this for international travel ?

It's very handy, prefect size, easy to pack and travel-friendly.
