Great Option for True Wireless UPDATED
--- Long-Term Use Update --- I installed the new v1.71 firmware today (which includes LDAC support!) and wondered how long I've owned these. Since I came here to find the answer anyway (18 months), I'll take a moment to update on their reliability. After all this time, my UTWS5 are still working perfectly, without the frequently-reported charging issues and no problems with them connecting randomly when they're in their charging case. Connection quality during use remains stellar. In the event that the aforementioned issues are user-induced, I'll note that I make it a point to ALWAYS wipe the earhooks clean (particularly around the charging contacts) before returning them to their charging case; this may or may not have contributed to my ongoing positive experience. LDAC has been rock-solid during today's listening session in my home office, with no audio stutters or connection drops even when moving around the room with the player on my desk. One session is hardly adequate for a definitive assessment, but it's promising so far. So, after 18 months of ownership, the UTWS5 are, for me, a five-star product that I'm still happy to recommend. --- Original Review --- I own two Bluetooth MMCX cables: an eight-year-old Sony MUC-M1BT1 and a six-year-old Westone BT v1 cable. They both still work perfectly, but I looked to the FiiO UTWS5 to add true wireless convenience, longer battery life, and a newer Bluetooth standard/codecs to my MMCX IEMs. I tested the FiiO UTWS5 with Westone W40, Sony XBA-H3, and 7hz Timeless. With all of these, the UTWS5 easily outperformed both aforementioned Bluetooth cables in sound quality and longevity. I'll leave the lengthy and nuanced sound analyses to the audiophiles. For IEMs with traditionally-located attachment points such as the W40 and Timeless, the UTWS5 ear hooks fit perfectly and comfortably. However, please note that if you have odd-shaped IEMs such as the Sony XBA-H3, they fall beyond the adjustment range of the UTWS5 ear hooks, and it is not possible to hang them behind your ears. You can still use them, if you like the idea of the ear hooks floating next to your ears instead of hanging behind them (I don't recommend doing so in public). Despite having countless other in-ear, on-ear, over-ear, wired and wireless options around, the UTWS5/Timeless combination is quite enjoyable to listen to and I find myself using it often. Regarding hardware and software, I have not experienced any of the issues listed by some reviewers. The ear hooks charge like they're supposed to, and they do not randomly reconnect to my devices (so long as the battery in the charging case isn't depleted). Phone call quality is good. I use the FiiO Control app only to update firmware as updates are released. I do not use the ambient pass-thru mode, and I don't care about custom button mappings. For my needs, the FiiO UTWS5 are great and I highly recommend them.

I don't regret buying these, they sound amazing, but the battery life is very disappointing.
These sounds much better than the Shure RMCE-BT2 I bough them to replace, and the range is better so I can roam my whole house connected to a PC in the office. BUT, the battery life is pretty poor. I don't think I get 3 hours when I'm listening at high volumes? I'll have to do more accurate time tests, but one of the main reasons I was replacing the Shure bluetooth receiver/cable was the battery life was only a fraction of what is was when I bought it less than two years ago. I'm not sure this FIIO unit is giving me as much battery life as the degraded Shure receiver does?! FIIO, your next version of these, the UTWS7 or whatever you call it should have TWICE the battery life of these if not more. Edit/update: After having these a good while I do dearly love them, but the battery life, while mostly, kinda livable is still the main downside. As a testament to how disappointing the battery life is, but also how much I love these, I want another pair so one set can charge while I use the other. But that will mean another pair of SE215, as I don't want to wear out the earphone to Fiio hooks connectors. As it is, I'm often swapping to SE215s on a cord or my over the ear B&W P7s when the UTWS5s need a charge. For the size of the UTWS5s, I feel they should last longer! I'd love 6+ hours of use at reasonably strong volumes, feels like I get 3 to 4.5 hours, varies. I did have some bumps early on, one earbud seemed to not be charging fully, bluetooth connection problems. But the bluetooth seems fine if I reduce the number of bluetooth devices with their bluetooth on, and an bluetooth adapter I was using on my PC seems to have been causing a lot of the mischief. That's mostly not an issue and I the the battery life on the earbuds is mostly pretty similar now.

just don't do it
On the rare occasion they actually perform as advertised, they sound awesome! I paired these with fiio FH3 MMCX earbuds. I do not usually leave negative reviews, but I cannot take it anymore. I have had these for just about a year with constant problems. Had to send these for a service call to random person in the San Diego, CA area who sent them back supposedly fixed with no explanation of issue, etc. They still did not work properly. And, even though they are faulty and do not work properly, you have to pay for the shipping to San Diego. Here's the list: - earbud hooks intermittently working (both left and right, you never know which one) - earbud hooks intermittently charging (both led indicators rarely light up together indicating charging) - bluetooth pairing is required far too often, and every time this happens, any settings in fiio app are erased, quite frustrating - volume control in fiio app and device are separate and glitchy and rarely work in tandem So, in short, you never know which earbud hook will play music, you never know if your earbud hook is charged, you never know if your settings are stored or erased, you never know what volume your earbud hook will be on. I'm moving on and hopefully I can find a company that produces a product they stand behind. I was praying for so much more but ultimately quite disappointed. The choice is yours, but you can't say I didn't warn you. Hope you get a good pair! Good luck.

Everything I wanted them to be
I couldn’t be happier with them, they check all the boxes: - Great sound quality (paired with my Campfire Andromeda) - Reliable connection with no drops - Comfortable, I forget I have them on - Easy to use, pair them once and as soon as you put them in your ears they’re always already connected - Buttons are customizable and work as expected al the time What could be better? - Microphone for calls is ok, but not great - Connecting tu multiple devices is not supported, need to disconnect from one first to connect to another - App is a bit clunky, but it does work, with a decent EQ too - Case does not feel as premium, a bit too large I tried these and the competitor true wireless from Shure, these beat the Shure no question

It will get you to listen to music, again
So I am listening to Purple rain right now using the UTWS5 connected to my Vivo X200 Ultra and playing music through my Unique Melody Mest IEMs. I wish I could have written this review sooner, but I've been busy listening to music instead ofr 3 weeks straight, seriously. I've used this combo to relisten and rediscover music I've listened to before and now discovering new music. I can say a lot of technical things, but none of that matters. The UTWS5 got me to enjoy music again. It made my favorite pair of IEMs into a wireless wonder. Two things to note. The sound is damn good, not as good as wired, but darn close and I can walk like 70-100 feet away clear to the other side of my house from the phone and still hear music clearly. Battery with the Mest is lasting 6-7 hours on a full charge. The buttons are intuitive to control music. I simply love what the UWTS5s have done for me. Oh yeah and the EQ from fiio app is darn good. It pushes the hell out of my IEMs, never heard so much bass out of my Mests, they are like bass cannons now with insane highs. Thank you UWTS5... eerr FIIO.

The best, but not without flaws
Sound quality is great. Won’t go into details. Tip: ambient mode can be triggered by 3x taps on right ear. Same on left activates assistant. This is not mentioned in app or help guide but on their blog post for firmware release. Fit: It’s light, but a bit bulky and can hurt ears over time. App: terrible. It works, but it’s glitchy and slow. Thankfully you can avoid it completely once set up. Operation and lid annoyance. The box has to close completely or the headphones will be connecting to the device again. Close the lid and they go to sleep. This is nice in theory but causes issues. If the fit isn’t perfect and it can’t close - it’s gonna be trying to connect to your device and stay on even if inside the box. If the lid opens in a bag, or in any other scenario - it will turn them on. If you are using an adapter, get the L shaped one. They won’t fit inside the box otherwise and all the lid madness will ensue. That’s very, very annoying, as the lid isn’t the best at closing firmly and staying closed. Problem can be resolved by a rubber band but it’s annoying. Did I say it’s annoying? To Fiio: Please fix the lid issue. Only turn on headphones when taken out of the box - can be fixed in firmware. The lid needs to be firmer or locking too. If you can provide adapters or sell adapters it would also be great. I needed an MMCX to IPX to make it work. Would be great if I could buy it from you.

Sus build quality, but rocks when it works
The ear hooks are a good piece of kit, when they work... I cannot comment with any authority on the sound quality or the use of these other than that they can be fiddly at best. But if you're willing to put up with these wireless headphones, I can only assume that you are comfortable with being technical and/or making things work to your liking. I am only writing this review to confirm on the reliability issues that others have stated. My first pair lasted me 2 weeks before I issued a replacement with Amazon. The hooks charged intermittently seemingly being fault of the charging case, until the right hook stopped charging all together. The second pair lasted approximately 5 months without issue, until the charging case burnt itself out. Upon disassembly, it appears that the charging circuitry had some sort of fault and kept overdrawing current from the battery, ruining it in the process. Given the lackluster reliability, I had no qualms poking around and doing stupid on it. Now I have my ear hooks charging through the case jumped to the USB input power straight into the 5VL/R and ground pins in the board. This works somehow and the case fully functions, minus being for ever tethered to USB for power. Battery-wise; as of this review it has been ~9 months, and the only discrepancy I can report is that the hooks are degrading at a different rate. My left hook has consistently had ~5% more battery than the right, equating to 15 or 20 minutes more minutes of runtime. This has been the 80% charge limit on the hooks.

Some issues, but otherwise excellent.
I'm writing this review after over a full year of use in conjunction with my FH3s. After I got them, I encountered the charging issue with the left ear. However, I was able to get in contact with the company and they repaired it for free. The latency hasn't been noticeable, and they behave exactly like my wired earbuds - even with FLAC files. The build quality of the case is excellent as well. It's survived many an accidental drop without breaking. My only downside is the microphones. They work adequately for pass-through audio, but yelling into them to be heard during a phone call was inconvenient enough I stopped using them for it.

Amazing sound. Really pack a punch
I REALLY struggle with IEM's despite loving the sound / isolation they provide. I especially struggle with most wireless buds as they rely on a friction fit in your ear to stay secure and i have really narrow ear canals which just never hold buds. I found that Fiio FH5's really are amazing in that regard when coupled with latex ear tips but i wanted them wireless instead of wired. Mostly as i hate having to use wired headphones with some kind of dongle in the phone or something. So the Fiio UTWS5 arrived to change my favourite IEM's into superb sounding true wireless. Despite the size they are incredibly comfy - surprisingly so. They're not intrusive on your ears at all. They're paired using the normal manner and you have access to the "Fiio Control" application which gives a full EQ, settings, button configuration, volume levels, balances, firmware updates etc I updated the firmware before doing much with them which took a couple minutes. They charge in the case with your IEM's fitted (there's a reasonably big hole for the buds to sit in and with MMCX connectors allowing for rotation it means mine sit safe and snug in the case. Case is larger than most wireless earbuds cases simply because it has the large components and has to accomodate a normal set of IEM's Overall for the same price as a set of wireless earbuds i'm getting top end sound. Winner for me

Audiophile hack!
For those like myself who find traditional TWS lacking (Sony, Bose, Apple) in the SQ, there little gems can turn you loved IEMs into an amazing portable solution. The DAC is great and maintains the SQ on my IER-Z1R, and 7HZ Timless. Battery life is good, and with the case it is long-haul trip solution. Case could be smaller, but that is a small gripe. Just be sure to order the correct version for you IEMs connection MMCX or 2-pin.
