Set does not come w/enough letters. đ
I have two issues with this set & one plus. One issue is my fault & I didn't remove any stars for that. One issue is not my fault & I removed 2 stars for that, regardless of the plus, bc the issue is a pretty big deal.Issue #1) I thought the cards had dips for the letters to stay in place. They don't. The cards are completely flat. This is my fault for assuming this bc I guess I didn't look at the listing close enough.Issue #2) This set absolutely 100% does NOT come with enough letters. This is a huge deal and, on that basis alone (unless you already have random extra letters of some sort at home) I would 100% discourage buying this set for a child learning to read.Despite those two issues, Im going to keep this set bc:1) Assuming the cards had dips in them is my fault.2) Luckily, we have a ton of extra (mostly magnet) letters here, of all sizes, that will work fine with this (however, one shouldn't have to depend on already having extra letters at home - or having to buy extra letters - when enough letters should have come with the set to begin with). On the plus side, the letters that do come with this set seem to be really well made. They don't seem to be cheap quality at all. It's just too bad that they didn't include enough of them. đâ

Reusing pieces for multiple letters may be confusing
This kit was largely as expected and my daughter quite likes it, but I'm a little worried watching her search for the reused letters as it's reminiscent of how dyslexics sometimes perceive letters seeming flipped/reversed. For example, if she's looking for a `d`, she has to realize all those `p`, `q`, and `b` pieces she's skipping are all the same and she's expected to recognize the `d` in the wrong orientation. Same with the `u` and `n`. I'm not sure this is a good pattern to ingrain at this age.

I believe this will help me teach my granddaughter to read.
This is a sturdy toy made of wood and laminated card. The colors are bright and the pictures are clear. The card has the word in outline for the child to place the correct letters to form the word with the wooden letters. It all fits into a bag for easy storage and transport. It will give my granddaughter a sense of accomplishment and she will learn to recognize letters, letter sounds, and words. All while having fun "playing" with grandma.

Great Kindergarten Center Resource
These cards and wooden letters are great for using with children learning how to identify letters and spell basic words. I'm using them with students who are learning English. The cards appear durable and the wooden letters are easy to use. The pictures on the cards are clear and understandable, with two exceptions: one card has two feet and the word foot, and another has two eyes and the word eye. I just cover one of the eyes and one foot when using the cards with my students. I would purchase this again.
