Beautiful Narrative Poetry
I bought and read the paperback version because I knew before hand it would be a keeper in my bookcase. I was not wrong. The author's ability to write letters to a dead Russian poet is one thing, but to write those letters in "narrative poetic form" is nothing less than awesome. The letters are filled with life, emotion, struggles, and hope. The narrative poems are some of the best I've seen in many years. I felt like I was sitting at the feet of a Master while reading this thin book.

Reading it now...so far so good. But I also enjoy virtually everything that Jim Harrison has penned.

Harrison continues to be one of my favorite story tellers! This one was very moving indeed.

How Have I Never Heard Of Yesenin?
Probably one of the best books of poetry I have read in a while. It was so heart breaking and accessible. These poems are letters to the Russian poet Yesenin who committed suicide after composing his final poem in blood. You see the phantom of suicide throughout these letters as he tries to deal with drug addiction and depression. Brilliant read! I am becoming more of a fan of his work each time.

The book enters the immortality domain
I learned about the book while searching 'YESENIN' in .... I was shocked when I started to read. How the american understands and loves the Russian genius! One has to be a great poet, as great as Yesenin's wife Isadora. Yes, after the iron curtian fall, Yesenin is going to take place he belongs to - next to Cervantes. Thank you Mr. Jim Harrison for your kind beautiful letters. I love you.
