Bell Automotive 22-1-24006-8 Lighted Compass, Multi, One Size

Q: Many users say this compass does not work. Well, does it work outside the car? If so, it seems like a positioning problem. Right?

Reviews are all over the place on this, and can almost guarantee all the issues are due to placement. It is very sensitive, and if near metal, speakers and the like, you will have a non-accurately functioning compass. Place it in your cupped hand and move it around and you will find it points all over the place. A repair? A calibration? It is a magnetic compass, and ferrous metals and magnets want to be a north pole. I tried installing one in a 2008 Impala and most of the dash won’t work, especially by the A pillar, as there is a tweeter in there. It can’t be shielded, so here is my suggestion. Stand away from the vehicle and let it find North. Use your smartphone to verify it. Then take it inside the car, and move it all around the windshield and dash until it replicates the direction outside. It may be at the very bottom of the windshield area on some of the dash grill work. Be patient. It’s a compass and one can’t argue with the laws of physics and the magnetic forces all around us.

Q: where in a car should you put this so it works?

Mine is on the windshield and works perfectly. I wasn’t able to find a working spot if I mounted on the dashboard.

Please things are great this is the second one I’ve had their accurate perfect size fits right in the dashboard I don’t see anything wrong with them

Q: It says the battery is required. Is the battery required for daytime only use?

The battery is only required to light the bulb when you press the switch.
