We have used the two handle, squeeze together type nutcrackers for years, and they always make the walnuts explode. This thing is great, it cracks the nuts without making the shells fly all over the room. Great buy, very sturdy.

Item is sturdy and mostly easy to use. The length needs adjusting for each pecan size. If not adjusted correctly, then the cracker is very difficult to operate.

This is an excellent device to crack the shells of pecans. My wife is an excellent cook and always is in need of pecan halves. This thing does the trick! It's easy to use, with a bit of muscle to depress the handle. It's a very good value for the money.

These nut crackers have been around forever from different brands/sellers. This one looks just like one that's probably 50 years old at my parents' house. If you take just a few seconds to adjust the fixed end so that the nuts are cracked but not crushed when the ram closes, then you'll get good results with pecans and other nuts or similar size and toughness. Of course, all the pecans won't be the same length, so use a little finesse when cracking them to accommodate the differences.To the people trying crack hickory nuts, black walnuts, etc: What were you thinking!!?? There are devices for that, but they won't be in this price range. But, old-timers I know used a hammer and anvil or rock with a slight depression to help cradle black walnuts. A leather or rubber strap to hold the nut reduces smashed fingers and cussing. After sufficient practice/experience you can learn to crack them effectively.

Picks are useful. Cracker doesn’t last long, broke the shaft after a couple weeks of use. Not very hardy.
