Review: This series is a great introduction to sightreading - I've completed the entire Piano Adventures sightreading series; all five books, nearly 500 pages of material. This was my very first attempt at proper sightreading practice, and it's a fantastic introduction. A lot of people online advise jumping straight into hymn books which contain 4 part harmonies and lots of vertical chord movement. I believe this is terrible advice. For sightreading, you want to start well below your actual piece-playing skill level. For most people, this means simple patterns, minimal vertical movement, and minimally voiced chords. The Piano Adventures series is great for this. It starts at square one. Maybe too easy for some at the very start, but it gradually builds in complexity in a smooth, progressive manner. Just for reference, I used this series purely on its own, without complement from the regular Piano Adventures method book series. So I didn't have any familiarity with the sightreading pieces beforehand, which I actually believe was a benefit. Also, the way I used this series was by playing an entire five "day" set everyday. Simply playing one small "day" piece per day is just not enough material, and would make the books too long to get through. Now I'm using the Improve Your Sight-reading! series, which is significantly more challenging in my opinion (I started with Level 3), so I'm glad I started with the Piano Adventures series first. I also sightread one piece per day from Simple Songs - The Easiest Easy Piano Songs.

A wonderful series for the adult learner
Well structured, easy to follow lessons I used to connect all of the books in the Level 1 series of Faber. Expensive to buy all 5 books, but they tied together nicely and it was worth the investment. As a whole the 5 books can be used for weekly lessons very easily and effectively to truly expand your knowledge of the piano. Worth getting the set.

A Very Useful Supplementary Book
This is a great book to supplement the Lesson Book. Their are 6 days of sightreading examples to go along with songs in the Lesson Book. There are fun questions that promote theory as well. And my granddaughter loves that, with each sightreading example it says, in authoritative print, "Don't Practice This!" She loves the requirement to not practice - how fun is that!
