Another generation of my family will hear these classic stories written in plain, everyday English, in a solid (childproof) hardback cover, and (oh joy!) printed in a clear, readable font just right for children learning to read. Thank you, Ladybird, for doing what other publishers of children's literature find so difficult.

The stories are too long to tell out loud comfortably. I got this for my 4 year-old granddaughter, expecting it to be like the classic Ladybird fairy tales- short and well-told. -But they are wordier than they need to be, and the illustrations are pretty ordinary.
