Baseball Coaching:The 59 Minute Baseball Practice

Great drills--lacking on planning and organizing a practice.
This is a great video if you are experienced in setting up and running practices-not as good if you are a novice at coaching. The drills are excellent overall. They will work well with most ages, though a few will be too sophisticated for very young players. The number of drills is also well spaced between requisite skills--such as hitting, base running, fielding in the infield and outfield, etc.The clips are quick--both in terms of length and the speed of sequencing on the tape--plan on viewing the tape at least twice to get it all. On the other hand, the tape's only about 30 minutes long, so viewing twice is no great burden. The "practice organization" section is weak--two different suggested practice schedules are briefly displayed with approximate times for each. Based on my experience, and given that several drills require a lot of equipment and/or paraphernalia, I'd be skeptical that you can actually get the suggested drills in in an hour practice--figure on an hour and 20 minutes. There is absolutely no other organization tips ot guidance on how to organize a practice, effectively use assistant coaches or run a game simulation, etc.Bottom line is this is s drills tape--a very good one, but strictly a drills tape nevertheless. This is a good addition to a coaches tape library but not he "ultimate" tape it's been made out to be.

Baseball Practices That Kids Love! For Baseball Coaches and Parents!
I've heard a lot about this video and was only disappointed in one aspect. The video goes about 20% too fast for me and should have had more detailed explanations. The drills themselves really scored high with me. Our team did have betterpractices using the content. If you get anything out of this, it should be the concept tointertwine fun with skills. Also to keep practicing throughout the season.I would recommend THE 59 MINUTE BASEBALL PRACTICEto all Little League & youth baseball coaches and parents. His book "Youth Baseball Drills" is also very good and complimentsthis video. These popular baseball titles by Marty Schupak are also available on Amazon's Video On Demand program for as low as $2.99. Took me from know-nothing to looking like a genius on day one
I'd never coached, and my wife told me to forget it because I have no patience with little kids. I bought the DVD, I made a cheat sheet with 10 drills on it and headed to the field. Ran the kids to warm them up, and in 75 minutes had a great practice with time for the kids to get to know each other at the end. Drilled the kids twice a week using the drills in the video; we finished 14-2 and lost to the eventual league champ by a couple of runs. Marty gets the credit, because he made me look smarter than I am, he showed me how to keep kids busy and he helped me gain the respect of my assistants and the kids. And the parents; when they stayed for practice and saw three drills being run at once they thought I knew what was going on. You know what, I DID!

It's ok.
I'm a complete newbie at being a head coach (for coach pitch) - and this is my first season doing it. I watched this video there wasn't one "wow - that's a great idea" moment. It has a few really good drills in it but it lacks a key component - understanding that kids are naturally competitive and that this tendency can be used in your drilling to create an excitement on your team and a drive to win. It's important to keep your practices moving and not let boredom overcome them. Taking some of his drills and making inter-team competitions out of them makes all the difference.Video editing is straight forward - done on some home computer. Unimportant - compared to content - but you can tell the difference between a quality product where there's a lot of effort and not.Hind sight - with all that's on the web - I wouldn't buy this again.

Fast paced which makes for excellent video. Great ideas!
I have purchased other baseball training videos from ESPN and they seemed to be useful. The only problem with those were how long the took to explain a basic drill. The problem with that was I found myself with the remote to fast forward through a lot of the repetative examples. This video rocks! I plan on using several of these drills to keep my players having fun and developing skills at the same time. I am going to talk to Board members of our league and ask that they purchase enough of these for all coaches. It will give some beginning coaches a solid foundation for planning and running practices. I think the reason most people run boring drills is they are there to fill up time rather than be effective. Not only will this video be great for keeping practices short for sharing fields but here in the NW light is an issue before Daylight Saving Time.Don't miss out on this video..

Good Drills, Terrible Quality Video
I was looking for specific drills I could add to a baseball practice that would keep things moving, keep boys interested, and teach good fundamentals. This short video has all of that. Really liked the content.Having said that, the video quality itself is absolutely terrible. My copy was like the tape of a tape of a tape. Very poor video and audio quality.Update: Producer of the video himself sent me a replacement. Great customer service. All is well in the world of teaching baseball again.
