Best Trimmer Ever Owned
I buy products from Amazon based off of the reviews. I only buy 4 stars and above and I read the reviews thoroughly to determine the quality of those 20% or less of the reviews. I also like to address the 20% “bad” reviews in mine.I base my experience with products from my Dad’s when I was a kid and the opinion of my wife. Both only buy/bought quality products and well-maintain them. This trimmer is a quality item and has served me and my 1 acre on the Alabama Gulf Coast very well over the past two years. As a caveat, here’s how I outfitted it:- Rino Tuff trimmer line- TruFuel 40:1 engineered fuelThese are the only two “nonstandard” items I’ve used and I’ve never had a problem. Here’s proof: from May 2017 when I bought it through end of that season (about mid-October here) and for two times in early 2018 it ran flawlessly. Then I left the country in early 2018 and returned to use it April of this year. This is the ONLY piece of lawn equipment that started within 10 seconds (3rd pull to be exact). I spent about two hours working to start my riding mower. I attribute this to only running TruFuel through it, cleaning debris out after each use, and FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAINTENANCE. It’s really been quite easy. Like I’ve said I’ve had this thing for two years, it sat up for over a year without being ran, and is running like a champ today. I switched from an electric trimmer to this and I’ll buy the same model (or equivalent) when this one finally starts pushing up daisies. To address other reviewers on here:- if you’ve only had your unit for a month then you really can’t make an educated review about it unless it has physically malfunctioned due to a defect, in which case return it for a replacement or get it fixed- in the event you can’t return it after 30 days because you didn’t buy the extended two year warranty then you have nothing to complain about - YOU ALWAYS buy the extended warranty on your investment unless you’re a gambler of a company’s QC Dept. I QC my items out of the box and put it through trials ASAP.- “it’s too heavy for me.” Seriously? The fact that it’s a Poulan PRO, as in “professional” or “professional grade” didn’t give it away as an item possibly used by professionals? It’s a 28cc engine that turns a rod and subsequent spool of plastic cord at a max of 8000 RPM’s. It just might need a little bit to do it. Do more weed eating to get used to the weight or hit the gym. Or look at Fisher Price, they may have some options for you.- “the manufacturer claim that the the auto bump can be used to extend the line is FALSE” - WRONG. You either wound it incorrectly by overlapping the line at certain points or you wound it backwards. I know this because I’ve made the mistake of doing both. It’s an easy fix; orderly wind the line and in the correct direction. It works as designed.I hope this review has helped someone. This is a good unit and I am happy when I use it. It’s beefy and cuts through all types of grass and brush on my property. Take care of it, don’t feed it ethanol-based fuel mix and maintain it - it’ll take care of you.

I would buy it again and recommend it to any home owner.
Bottom line: great trimmer, back saver for tall people, incredible power, great start up. LOVE this string trimmer.Elaboration:I can't attest to the commercial or business capabilities of this thing. We have a half acre of yard that is some haphazard mix of plain old lawn, arboretum, playground, and animal conservation center. For 3 years I've been rocking a curved shaft, corded string trimmer. If you're thinking to yourself "that sounds terrible", you are already wiser than I am. Congratulations.I finally decided to upgrade to a gas trimmer so I could just get around all the fences, sidewalks, hedges, bushes, swing set, and flower beds more efficiently. I decided on a straight shaft because I'm 6 feet tall and frankly, they are overall cheaper. This guy fell at the top of the Amazon list for price and reviews, even though there were only 3 reviews when I bought it.I could not be more pleased with the purchase. I had previously used my electric string trimmer in running shorts and slippers. There is no safe way to do that with this trimmer. I had grass from my ankle to my shoulder and even some on my face. I was able to do our whole fence line in about 15 minutes. We have a lot of fence. If you are using an electric now and considering a gas upgrade, make sure you have strong denim pants that go all the way down to your close-toed shoes, get yourself some sort of thick, long sleeved shirt to wear, and invest in some eye protection. And then, my friend, trim until your arms give out! Which they will, long before the machine does.

Good powerful trimmer, but not perfect.
Overall this trimmer seems like a good trimmer for the money. It has really good power to get through tall weeds. However, I have two main complaints. 1. That extra power comes with extra weight. This trimmer is fairly heavy. 2. I think the placement of the pull rope makes it awkward to start. On top of that, mine doesn’t start very easy. It usually takes 7 or 8 pulls to get it going. If your looking for value and power, this is a good buy.If you want light weight and easy to start you might want to looks elsewhere.

Not enthused after first use
Initial review... engine felt weaker than 28cc... clutch is awkward, as you can't really trim at low RPMs like I'm used to (since the clutch disengages around the sweet spot for normal grass trimming). Also, in the low-mid RPM range, there's a lean spot where the engine wants to bog and die due to lack of fuel. I'll have to open it up and try to adjust the carb... hopefully it has a mixture needle! Other than these weaknesses, the trimmer feels solid. At high RPMs it runs okay and seems to have enough power. I have hedge trimmer and pole saw attachments that will be the real test.Update...Carb adjustment was easy and accessible (with a splined driver)... much better after that. Changed from 3 to 4 stars. Time will tell regarding longevity...

Bad Investment
I’d tried grass trimmers with smaller engines but they all lacked enough power to get through grass without stalling or slowing down. This Poulin trimmer has adequate power and is easy to start. The only negative I can find is it’s a little short for me (I’m 6’1”) - I find myself leaning into it a bit too much.**UPDATE**The first time I used this trimmer it worked well (see initial review), however on the 2nd time it would start, run a few minutes then the engine would stop. I restarted it and this repeated time and time. I do not recommend this trimmer. I do however recommend Amazon. Their customer service is second to none. Thank you, Amazon.

Handy Tool
I had a previous model Poulan Pro for about 10 years. It finally gave out. I ordered the newest version and it fit all my old attachments. I recently used the pole saw attachment and it did a great job. This is a great tool, but you can't work the cultivator attachment too hard. You need to use a rototiller for tough jobs, but the Poulan cultivator attachment is great to weed between the rows of your garden.
