Approximately how much grit is in each bag?  1 cup?

Accepted Answer

Stage 1 is about 1 cup, Stage 2 is about 1-1/4 cup, Stage 3 is about 3/4 cup and Stage 4 is about 3/4 cup.  In addition to the weight differences, the difference in density affects the volume also.

Can the plastic pellets be used for burnishing?

Yes, I have read where people can use the plastic pellets along with soap and water to burnish tumbled rocks.  The main thing about burnishing is the soap which cleans pretty much all the grit from the rocks and gives them a nice shine.  The only thing I know about the plastic pellets, however, is that you should use fresh pellets for each phase of your tumbling because the various grits can get stuck in the pellets and end up scratching your finished product.  So if you use fresh pellets in the burnishing phase it will help cushion the rocks while the soap cleans them.

I can't find the instructions? how much do i use and do i use the pellets with the grit

Instructions are included with all our grit kits but here is the recap.  Start with Step 1 and proceed through Step 4.  Use 2 Tbs. grit for every pound of rock for Steps 1 & 2.  Use 1 Tbs. grit for every pound of rock for Steps 3 and 4.  If you have alot of empty space in the tumbler, use pellets to get the tumbler to about 2/3 full.  Cover the stones, grit and pellets with water.  Run each step for 7 days.  Rinse off the rocks between each Step.  Do not use the plastic pellets in different steps because they can have grit embedded in them.  Save them for your next tumble and use them in the same Stage as you did in the previous tumble.

Question 4

I have a vibrating polishing tumbler. I want to play/make sea glass. Can you recommend a medium that would be best?

You can use this grit kit to polish glass.  There are different views on which grit levels to use.  Start with Step 1 to round off the edges.  Some people don't use all the successive grit levels.  You can experiment with what effects you desire.  Also, you won't need to go the entire 7 days per grit level.  Run it for a day or two and check whether it is to your liking.  Then move on to the more fine grits.
