Q: How deep does this penetrate into the wall? Just 1/2"? Can it go over studs?

So I added this as an access panel through my bricks to my jacuzzi tub motor. It only went in about 1/2 through the brick. Studs were not in the way

2” more than the size of the door 22”x22” is 24”x24”

Q: How do you open it once installed?

This access panel has plastic latches on one side of the door to hold it closed. To open the access panel you can use a flat head screwdriver to pry open the door. It is very easy to do.
