This beloved 1963 album on Impulse! is a career highlight for both Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane. Hartman was apparently Coltrane's suggestion for the recording and his deep, dark voice meshes perfectly here with Coltrane's tenor. The material is well-chosen, including definitive readings of "My One and Only Love" and "Lush Life." Verve Acoustic Sounds Series features transfers from analog tapes and remastered on 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.

Get it!
This is a classic and as usual an outstanding reissue from Analog Productions.

A must have for any record collector
The recording for this album is top notch. This was at a time when both Coltrane and Hartman were at the top of their game. This is an awesome album.

Late night vocal jazz
A very nice reissue of a gorgeous record. Great late night listening.Vinyl was very well pressed and quiet and completely free of pops or defects. Also a fan of the new covers , these ones are not done by Stoughton so slightly thinner but they still look very classy and slick.Grab your favourite beverage and sit back and listen to a wonderful jazz vocal record - lights down low of course….

Strange mastering
I was excited about this release from analog prod, but I was left a little disappointed. First off, the vinyl was pretty dirty and it required a good cleaning. Secondly, and more importantly, the mastering is strange. It’s sounds dried out in an effort to lower the noise floor, and frequencies seem boosted in the range of Hartman’s vocals. Maybe they tried to emphasize his vocal, but it immediately sounded fatiguing. Less warmth and more pointy mids. I A/B’d it with my other pressing of this album, and the low mids we’re creamier on the latter. I also own A Love Supreme done by them, and the same can be said. Ear-fatiguing mids and a drier sound. Just my take. I returned it. I’ll take a noisier sound floor with that smooth full bass all day!

Scratches
Very disapointed a lot of scratches in the side b, not acceptable in a new high quality and expensive Verve album.
