A Must-Have for Gardeners Who Want Fresh-Looking Beds Year Round
I purchased the MulchWorx Black Mulch Color Concentrate as a way to refresh my faded garden beds without the expense and labor of replacing all the mulch—and I couldn’t be happier with the results. ✅ What Stands Out: * Deep, Rich Color: The "midnight black" result is exactly as advertised—bold and striking. My yard instantly looked well-maintained and freshly mulched. It’s a dramatic but natural-looking upgrade. * Easy Application: It mixed well with water, and I applied it using a standard garden pump sprayer. The dye spread evenly, absorbed quickly, and didn’t clump or run. * Covers a Lot of Ground: One quart went further than I expected. It treated all my front yard beds (roughly 2,500 sq ft) with some left over for touch-ups. * Saves Time and Money: Instead of hauling bags of new mulch, this gave me professional-looking results in an afternoon for a fraction of the cost. Perfect for seasonal touch-ups or special occasions. ⚠️ A Few Considerations: * It’s a strong dye, so you’ll want to take precautions. I recommend wearing gloves and protecting surrounding concrete, bricks, or pavers during application. * The bottle doesn’t have a built-in measuring guide or spout, which can make mixing a bit messy. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of. 🎯 Why I Recommend It: This is a smart solution for homeowners who want that fresh-mulch look without the heavy lifting. Whether you're prepping for spring, selling your home, or just want a clean and polished landscape, this product delivers. It’s also ideal for people with larger yards who are conscious of budget and efficiency. 🛍️ Final Thought: Reliable, effective, and budget-friendly—this is now a staple in my seasonal garden toolkit. Highly recommend to fellow homeowners or garden enthusiasts looking for a fast transformation with professional-level results.

Much easier to use than I thought
I purchased this because I wanted to change the mulch color in my plant beds from red to black and didn't want to first have to haul away all the old red mulch, but I also didn't want red mulch poking through the black to spoil the finished look. This worked supremely well to cover the red mulch! It took 4 gallons of dye/water mixture to cover about 300 sq ft of mulch. I sprayed on a dry, calm day and there was no mess and no staining. I wore nitrile gloves and old clothes but didn't get a drop on me. My pump sprayer never clogged and cleaned up well (basic 1 gallon sprayer). Even though I need black mulch to fill in around the base of the plants, the finished product is very nice. I sprayed it when most of my plants were still dormant and I before using the dye I cut back to the ground those that could be cut back so I could get closer to the base of the plants with the dye. I still have plenty of dye left over to fill in any spots after I put down the black mulch (in case any old red mulch turns over and pokes through), though I am not sure how long the dye will be usable after opening the container. I put the container in a gallon ziploc bag, hoping that will keep it usable for a couple weeks. It's a lot of dye concentrate, I almost wish it was available in smaller bottles to prevent waste. Still not worth knocking off a star for, but something to consider. All in all, it was worth the price for me to save the labor of removing red mulch to replace with black and I'm very happy with the purchase. Next year I plan to purchase this dye again to refresh the color instead of putting down another 40 bags of mulch. :)

Works Wonders, but Messy!
This mulch colorant is amazing! I purchased a cheap one gallon sprayer from Dollar General and tossed it afterwards. Beats trying to clean it and getting black dye all over everything. I have tons of shrubs and hedges in my yard. I had my landscaper trim them all and had lots of dirt, leaves, etc on my black mulch that made it look really messy. So, I ended up raking lots of mulch up with the leaves and did not want to replace it all. It took me 50 bags of mulch to make the yard look decent a year ago, and I did not want to replace it. I tried this colorant, and all I can say is WOW! I read the reviews prior to purchasing and it said that it dyes everything. Well, from my experience it does not dye leaves well. Greenery still will show up through the mulch. So once you remove as many "green" leaves/shrub trimmings as possible, or at least hide them underneath the mulch, you can dye away. You need gloves and clothing that could get ruined. My sprayer was brand new and still it leaks a little around the tip once you completely stop spraying. I had a water hose near by and rinsed the dye off of the sidewalk/cement immediately. It worked well. No dye penetrated through the cement or onto my concrete edging that protects my mulch. I even have a brick house and I sprayed carefully to keep it away from the brick as much as possible. Take your time, wet the sidewalk/cement or any other parts of the driveway that you do not want to stain. Try hard not to wet the mulch prior to dying it or it will not stick well. The temp here was 90 degrees plus so it stayed down well. I used approximately 4 ounces per gallon and it was extremely black. I tried 2 oz initially and it rained lightly the next day and I noticed the color washed away slightly to an "off-black". So, I went over it again the next day with a higher concentration and so far, it's dark and beautiful! No dye to clean off of my side walk and the color stands out when driving through the neighborhood. Much better than replacing mulch that will lose it's color after a few days or a few rainy days.

Blackens mulch beautifully. I recommend this highly! And saved me a ton on new mulch.
I had the idea that my mulch is still there but it was just faded and I wondered if I could just dye or color it. So I searched and found this product. I recommend it highly. First, if you have bare spots, cover it with some new mulch (or relocate faded mulch to cover the spots) so you're not spraying dirt. I used 3 oz per gallon (package says use from 2 to 5 ounces) and it made my mulch very black. And I only sprayed it once but I made sure it was sprayed very black before moving on to the next spot. I used a 1 gallon Gilmour garden sprayer which worked well except that the wand is short so I had to constantly lean over to spray and to hold back limbs of small plants so I didn't spray them and my back is killing me. If I had to do again, I'd get a sprayer with a long wand that reached to the ground (I'm a tall guy), and shoulder strap or backpack style so it leaves my other hand free to hold up the thin piece of plywood I would put at the sidewalk edge to prevent overspray. The sprayer I used had such a short wand and tube I had to carry it. Also, make sure your trigger doesn't get stuck open -- what a mess to get the spray everywhere: siding, sidewalk, porch. If it does get stuck open and sprays everywhere, then unscrew the round thing on the other side of the trigger, spray WD40 in there, and work the white piece of plastic back and forth until it moves freely (YouTube video showed me that). Also, I found that after each tankful, the spray tip got gummed up and wouldn't spray so I had to remove the tip and soak and scrub it a bit because I think some colorant solidified at the bottom and gunked up the tip. Spraying goes a lot faster if you have a helper to position the plywood and move limbs of plants out of the way. My mulch beds look brand new and so dark now. Maybe after it rains a few times I'll update this review. I accidentally got some on me (even though I used gloves that tore) on legs and arms but it came off in the shower with just a little scrubbing.

Works great in the Florida sun.
Very good product. Much faster and easier than buying all new mulch every year. Saves you a lot of work. I wish I would have tried this stuff sooner.

Dyes everything
This product does what it says. It dyes mulch. With that being said, it will also dye whatever else it comes into contact with (skin, sidewalks, gutter downspouts, etc) so have a plan in place for when that happens. Also be aware that depending on the weather, this product takes time to dry. If your pet or someone walks through this before it’s dried you will have this on your carpet or other non desired areas. This product goes on very dark and fades over time depending on the weather. After my experience, I bought more mulch and covered the old dyed mulch. It looked good when applied but about 8 hours later it rained and it faded considerably. It was also hard to keep off of things you don’t want dyed. I used a pump sprayer to apply which was not mess free. Be sure to wear rubber gloves too or your hands will be a different color when you’re finished.

Mulch colorant
I used this mulch colorant to refresh the look of my yard, and it made a huge difference. The color came out rich and even, giving my old, faded mulch a fresh, like-new appearance without having to replace it.Application was pretty straightforward. I mixed it as directed and used a pump sprayer, which helped get an even coat. A little goes a long way, added water so one bottle covered more area than I expected. One important thing to keep in mind is to be very careful around concrete and other surfaces it can stain if it gets on them. If that happens, wash it off immediately with soap and water. I also recommend using a piece of cardboard to cover edges while spraying to prevent overspray and keep lines clean.

Works great and a lot of coverage
Works great. Couldn't tell you the exact footage but guessing i covered a 4' by 100' approximately with 2 coats with just over half the bottle.

AMAZING!!!
It works!! My gardens look like they have been topped up with new mulch. Mulch is expensive and it fades. I have MANY gardens and don't like to dish out $100s of dollars on mulch each year. This products makes the mulch look refreshed and vibrant. Only a small amount is needed and it mixes well when added to water. A bit messy, yes. But with a little bit of patience and practice, it was easy to apply. Highly recommend and will definitely buy again!!
