If you're a fan of the films Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce, The Postman Always Rings Twice and Slightly Scarlet, then you are already a fan of James M. Cain. All of those great films were based on novels by Mr. Cain.The Complete Crime Stories contains great short hard boiled crime stories including The Baby In The Icebox, Career In C Major, and The Money And The Woman (The Embezzler) plus fourteen other great stories.This is a great collection from Mysterious Press has an introduction by Otto Penzler.I have collected James M. Cain for decades and highly recommend this book.

This book of short stories is a treat. If you like James M. Cain (Postman Always Rings Twice), you'll love these, especially the last story in the book. Cain is brilliant at cutting his prose to the fewest possible words necessary to propel a story from the moment you start reading. He is also a master at telling a story from a certain point of view - usually the narrator's. Dark, funny, relentless, mysterious, with twists and turns when you least expect them, he delivers the goods.

This is a mixed bag of good and bland from this author. Some stories are better than others....about a 6 out of 10

This collection is a very good compilation of Cain's short stories, written throughout his career. It includes two longer novellas which are probably the best two stories in the book. There were a few frustrations with bad proofreading here and there; I'm not sure any human eyes were actually involved. But, these were small annoyances considering the chance to read quite a few stories of Cain in one place. I highly recommend this volume.

Some very poor stories here.

If you like your stories in the Noir category you will like this book. James Cain is know for his stories such as Double Indemnity, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Mildred Pierce and other classics. If you like your stories with a twist you will like this.

Caine has been a favorite since the Postman Always Rings Twice. Easy reading, intersting and surprising stories and great for reading in the waiting room. I recommend it as well as his other books.

There are way too many typos in this book. I thought Mysterious Press was better than this. They have been before but I guess they have decided to let quality slide out the door. Too bad. James Cain deserves much better than this mess.

James M Cain wrote 2 possibly 3 great books (Double Indemnity, Postman, & Mildred Pierce). Everything else he wrote is ATROCIOUS, as this collection amply proves. Avoid

jim deserves so much better than this messed up copy. The text is scrambled, perhaps the publisher can't read? Save your money.

Was really looking forward to reading this guy's work, but the typographical errors were so numerous they ruined the experience. Do yourself a favour and buy a paperback.
