The headphones sound great and Sony unexpectedly resolved an issue I had given up on. Kudos, Sony!
UPDATE 6/19/18: Out of the blue, I received a friendly email from Sony telling me they have decided to replace my son's defective headphones, which we received today! We're thrilled because we thought this was a dead issue. Therefore, my review has gone from one star to five. Thank you, Sony! Got these for my son for his birthday 5 months ago. A couple of weeks ago, the right side fell off, held together only be a wire. Upon closer inspection, a small plastic ring inside the "swivel," (which is what normally holds it together) was broken. That's when I looked the product up on Amazon to see if anyone else had had this issue and sure enough, there were people who had this and other issues with these phones. Underneath each negative review, there was a reply from "Sony Social Support." They apologized and offered their email address so they could help people out, so rather than leave a negative review, I contacted them, attaching my receipt and a photo of the broken headphones. Eventually, I received this reply: "Thank you for reaching out to us first. Please contact our support team once you have the time at 1-800-222-7669 (9am to 12mn EST) and have the receipt ready. Our support team are the ones authorized to process any replacement/repairs. At this point, I can’t promise that it will be replaced automatically as they will still review or request additional pictures from you but I strongly advise that you make the call. Best regards, Mark Sony Social Media" After following Mark's advice, I contacted Sony Support, only to be told that the warranty doesn't cover this issue. Then I remembered that I also purchased the additional protection of a Square Trade Protection Plan. Called them and they said that since it didn't sound like "normal wear and tear," they didn't cover it either, although they did refund the $10 I paid for the plan. I desperately called around the repair shops near me but nobody handled the casing. I then attempted to repair it myself. I'm normally pretty good at fixing stuff but this would require a replacement part, which I actually bought online. It came with no instructions and there is no obvious way to execute the repair, without spending many, many hours.

Amazing headphones! If they break, you're putting them on wrong...
I love these headphones. I bought these to replace my older wired extra bass sonys. I have had them now for a little under a year and they're in the same condition as I bought them but a little softer on the ears perhaps. They produce great volume, and loud bass that you can control to a laughably ridiculous amount with their app. I have had no issues with them. I use them on all my devices including my Avantree usb on my PC and PS4. Now, how do you keep them from breaking on you? Well, I was scared of the other reviews of people having theirs break before I bought them. I was very nervous and treated them very delicately at first. What I do is make sure that I am putting them on by holding the upper sides above the rotating parts. I never pull or twist on the rotating parts to get them on or off. Like I said, they're still in the same condition when I bought them and I probably use these almost daily for up to 3-4 hours at a time. I've worn them around my neck, ran at the gym with them on (I wouldn't recommend because they'll make your ears hot), thrown them in my bags and backpacks. You get the picture, I use these a lot. Not to mention, I did buy these off of warehouse deals with a slightly damaged box. Great buy, durable enough, and if they were to break on me tomorrow, I would probably get another pair but I feel these will last me another good year or so.

Absolutely fantastic! Great job Sony!!!
After trying both of the XB950N1 and the ch700n’s in store I decided I liked the xtra bass a lot more so I waited for them to go on sale. Needless to say I wasn’t willing to spend $249 on a set of noise canceling headphones, when the exact copy of them without noise canceling is less than $100. Instead of waiting for a sale however, I went ahead and ordered the non-noise canceling version, and I could not be happier. These are fantastic quality and the noise canceling is not missed. I mostly use these when listening to music while others are in the same room watching TV, or while watching movies in bed paired to an I pad. Frequency response is just as good as the 700n’s in my opinion, albeit overall the 700n’s are a little brighter if that makes sense, and wow the bass can really rattle your brain with the right song. Everything I ever wanted in a wireless headset. Finally, the battery life is incredible. I have used them for approximately two months now and they get used on average three times a week for 1-2 hours at a time. They have only been charged once and are just now getting to the point where they need to be recharged. Doing the math that’s approximately 30-32 hours! Wow, just wow! I am sure there are better sets out there for triple or quadruple the price, but for the average every day user these are amazing. If you’re on the fence, just do it!

Would buy again, at the right price
I previously owned the XB950BT which I believe is the predecessor to this model. They are largely the same, but my last pair broke a little easily (I hot glued them back together). These seem probably the same build quality, but for the $80 Cyber Monday price, you will hardly find many good competitors. I also think the app control is new for the B1. BLUETOOTH IS GETTING GOOD I generally hate low-quality audio; when I walk past people playing music off of phone speakers, it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. Along this vein, I typically prefer headphones with a cord, as it delivers the best possible audio quality. That being said, I am very impressed with how far Bluetooth technology has come. Yes, these will compress your music a little to carry the wireless signal, but frankly I think it isn't noticeable for a majority of people. These headphones rock. You get incredible sound, nice and loud, and the noise isolation is good enough that I didn't feel the need to pony up for noise-cancelling (I do not travel or take public transport, though, I could see those being good for travel). EXTRA BASS AND EQ APP The extra bass function is tasteful especially for hip-hop fans. These cans sound like you're in a car with a sub-woofer. The app is kinda worthless to me, as iOS already shows the battery percentage, and I don't care for the EQ settings in the app. LEAST FAVORITE CHANGE These B1s now say "Bass Effect On" and "Off" when you press the button, whereas the previous model did not. It's annoying as heck because it silences your music. It's a step backward. It's not like you can't tell when the bass is on -- there's an indicator light, and it's incredibly obvious just by listening. I have no idea why Sony decided to add this, I don't understand why they have to interrupt my music. CHEAP BUILD QUALITY Warning that you may want to get a travel case for these, they're entirely plastic and don't fold in any way. Everything is made in China. MISC NOTES These cannot charge and be used at the same time, BUT you can still get audio over the headphones cable when the battery is dead, you won't get any bass effect though. Still would be better to be able to charge. COMPARE TO I think these are infinitely better than Beats of all kinds, for the price. Better than JBL, better than Skullcandy, better than many brands. But I would not go as far as to say they are better than slightly more expensive Audio-Technica models, etc. Frankly, these are the best sub-$100 bluetooth headphones that I know of.

LOVE these
I'm an artist, and I have roommates. I love to listen to music when I paint, but I wanted to make sure I was not disturbing my roommates if I decided to paint at 2am. I had previously been using the original tethered apple earbuds, but the shape of those hurt my ears. Purchasing these back in 2018 was a complete game changer for me!! They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time (sometimes I paint for 8+ hours straight) and I love that I have so much control over the sound quality by pairing them with the Sony Headphones app on my phone. Additionally, the long battery life makes them versatile for many uses; long painting sessions, watching movies, long car rides, etc. I also love that they can convert between Bluetooth use and traditional tethered use; this helps in the event that they DO run out of battery unexpectedly, and having the cord allows me to still listen to my music if I want to. I was worried when I was reading the reviews about how easily these break, but here I am 2 years later and I still love these. Take care of the things you buy (I bought a case for these before I even had the headphones) and they will last a very long time.

Love these headphones
Love these headphones. I own both these and the n1 version and have no complaints about either of them. Bass hits a little harder and is a little more clear in the n1 version but I also paid $100 more them so I would hope they were a little better. These are fantastic none the less though and they sound incredible. A lot of people complain about the build quality and how the headphones are breaking at the hinge. I can understand and see how that is possible because yes it is built rather weak but I've owned mine for over a year and use them just about every single day and have had no build quality issues what so ever. Just take care of them and treat your equipment with respect and you'll have no issues with this product lasting you a long time. I bought a case for mine as well to store in when traveling and not using so I guess that helps as well. Either way, great product and I recommend for sure. The bass in these is just right for all you Bass lovers. Not over done like the crushers when everything else becomes completely drowned out. These have a fantastic hard hitting bass but the mids and highs while not perfect are still there and heard very nicely.

Great , amazing sound, could be more durable though!
This is a great item! Durability is my only issue with it! My husband bought me one of those for my birthday along with an iPhone xsmax, and I fell in love 😍 with both. Now it fell down from our closest while in the box, and still broke! I didn’t bother contacting Samsung about it, and since we had an amazon gift car from our job , I just went ahead and bought a new one. They work amazingly , and I’m usually very carefully with my items; if you’re not, I’ll not recommend it for you, otherwise, for the price, you are getting a masterpiece lol! They work amazingly! Great for gaming too apparently because he (my husband) has some Bose headsets, very durable (I give them that) but he prefers borrowing mine when he plays with his boys. I guess he’s trying to noise cancel me?? 🙄

Great sound and comfort, Will break, and Sony won't stand behind its products!
UPDATE June, 2018!!!!! Though it did take them six months, I have to give credit where it is due. A short while ago, I was contacted by a representative from Sony customer support. They stated that after reviewing the service request I had placed about my broken headphones (the request was placed about six months ago), they would be willing to replace the headphones free of charge. There was the caveat that I had to still have the broken headphones so that I could verify the serial number, but once I did, they sent me new ones in the mail within a few days’ time. I was not required to return the old ones, I was not required to pay shipping; I was not required to do anything other than fill out the minimal paperwork it took to verify that I was a purchaser. Though it was not in the timeliest of manners, I do appreciate that Sony is willing to stand by their products. Customer support was friendly and helpful, and the process was painless from beginning to end, once it had been started. While I can’t necessarily recommend this particular product, due to its questionable build design and high chance for failure, I can in good conscious recommend Sony products once more. Hopefully, Sony will improve the build quality of the next line of their Headphones, as other than its propensity for breaking, they are some of the best sounding, most comfortable headphones I have ever owned. Here’s hoping they don’t break again, and a big thanks to Sony for standing by their products! TL:DR: DO NOT BUY THESE HEADPHONES! They are comfortable to wear, even for long periods. They sound great if you like bass tuned headphones. Terrible durability and will break from gentle use after only a short time (under a year). No customer support; Sony refuses to stand by their products, which is unacceptable, especially with a price tag this high. Full Review: From the moment I got the Sony MDR-XB950B1’s I fell in love. They were inarguably the most comfortable headphones I have ever owned, the sound quality was fantastic if you like bass tuned headphones, and even the battery life when used wirelessly left me little room to complain. Why then, do I rate these headphones so poorly? The reason is, that after only about 7 months of wear, the headphones broke. They were extremely well cared for, but even with the gentle handling they received, due to a manufacturing issue, they did not have the durability for longtime use. For a pair of headphones that cost $200, that is an unacceptable lifespan. I’ll include some images to show what I am talking about, but allow me to explain it here as well. For reasons I can only speculate at, there is a channel that is carved out on the rear side of the arms that hold the ear cups. I can only assume this is for a wire channel on one side, and they chose to make it symmetrical. Regardless of the reason, this is also a flex point, as tension will be placed on this hollowed out arm every time that you spread the headphones to put them on your head. For me, this is exactly where the headphones broke, as the hollowed out space compromises the strength of the plastic. Again, at the price tag that these ring in at, I cannot in good conscience recommend them to anyone, as you will likely be looking for a new pair of headphones again in a little over half a year. Now, it is possible that this is somewhat of an isolated incident, and that I simply received a defective pair. However, that does not excuse the next issue. If you do purchase these, and if they do break, you are on your own. When they failed I called Sony, being that they were still under warranty, and was informed that this was not something that the warranty covered. So, a manufacturer defect is not something the warranty covers? This leads me to believe (with a faint amount of sarcasm) that that warranty, or the extended warranty, is only good if the driver inside dies within the first week or so. After that, they won’t touch them. This was extremely disappointing, as I used to love Sony products, and would even recommend them over competitor’s products to my friends and family. However, it seems that at this point they have lost all pride in their craft, and refuse to stand by their products. I’ve had better customer experiences with brands like Logitech than Sony in recent years, and for a company that I used to respect so much, that’s very sad. I can’t explain how much I wanted to give this product a five star rating, as I did love them for the time that I had them. However, with the lack of longevity that these boast, and the refusal from Sony to stand by their products, I cannot recommend this, or any other product that they make. Unless something major changes, I will likely be looking for alternatives to Sony products in the future, and though it pains me to say it, I recommend you do the same.

Go for it if you like bass music !
I was desesperately looking for a headphone with huge bass to listen to electro musics. I'm really happy with this one, although you may find the same quality for $100. Here, the price includes options, bass button and bluetooth. Go for it if you like bass.

Best Balance of Quality and Price
These headphones amazed me. First of all, I'm going to start out by saying that I payed for these headphones by myself and am not being sponsored by Sony. Right out of the box, I was surprised. I was expecting some cheap feeling mass produced headphones, but I quickly realized that my assumptions were wrong. They are fairly weighty, but not enough to make your head sore after some jamming. The headband is made out of brushed aluminum, which is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, but feels solid and sturdy. The rest of the housing is made of plastic, but feel well built. When I first tried these on, I was amazed on how comfortable they were. Coming from a pair of cheaper Sony headphones, these felt like luxury. Plenty of ear room and very cushiony around the hears and on the top of the head. I continued on normally when I test these types of products, and turned them on. Connecting was a breeze with the built in NFC functionality. I just tapped my phone to the right earcup, pressed ok on my phone, and I was paired. After playing some music on Spotify for roughly half an hour, I was stunned. The sound quality on these are exactly what you would expect for the price tag. The extra bass option is a must have if you are a bass lover like me. I am going to continue to use these as my daily drivers and I would recommend these to anyone looking for a solid pair of quality headphones

Good for Bass lovers
Bass as the product is tagged extra bass is definitely good. But the volume at full also seems low.
