Western Intrigue and Romance
Though I prefer action and adventure over intrigue and romance, I enjoyed this novel because it is well written, carefully plotted,Historically accurate (I can only presume, not having done Dee Brown’s research), and set in a period when Indigenous people and white interlopers were clashing.Read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee if you want to begin to learn the truth of Americans’ sordid history. Creek Mary’s Blood is also excellent. It is my hope to encounter novels researched and written by indigenous authors about early contact and conflicts. Seems to me such literature has been written almost exclusively by the conquerors.

Written Superbly. An absolute must read.
I was surprised at the end to read the description of Dee Brown's life, though I finally received an explanation for the absolutely exquisite imagery and writing I am not accustomed to in reading many newer novels. I almost expected the book to be a bit dry, but loved the premise and was hooked by the first few pages. Little did I know, it would be a page turner I could scarcely wait to continue reading. Brown's writing shows a depth of knowledge few possess regarding the day to day workings more commonplace in the day and age his story is set in. It feels as if he has lived it, and through him the believability and reality are easily accepted.Though it was before his time, his childhood being on the very cusp of the 1900's no doubt gave him more insight and a credibility to his descriptions, emboldened by his passion and depth of knowledge amassed on the subject of Native American history. He tells a wonderful and captivating story. I will be reading his other works. Truly a gifted author.

This is a novel that is fiction. However, Dee Brown is well known as an expert in American History and the details in the story are very accurate.A detective is hired to find John Singleterry if he is even alive. Not only is he alive but he tells a story of what happened to him as an Army Scout during the time The Cheyenne were being moved to a reservation. He was engaged to the daughter of his superior officer. During his patrol he he meets a girl living with the Cheyenne but is half-white and half-Indian. He falls in love with her and becomes sympathetic with the Indians. He has to work out how to resolve these problems which also include an Indiana Agent who is crooked. The ending will surprise you.

Well told story of a scouts life nearing the end of Indian unrest
I selected my rating on how well the story was told more than historical accuracy. The characters are believable and most are likeable. Most people who have read much about this period will enjoy this book
