GAJAPATI: A KING WITHOUT A KINGDOM

Terrific and Instructive read
This is a terrific read on a subject on which there has always been a lot of curiosity and interest, but not enough literature. Odisha is well known for the holy Jagannatha Mandira, and it is well known that the King of Puri does the symbolic Chherra Pahanra or ritualist sweeping of the chariot of the Lord by the King. The author gives us a lot of details about the King of Puri, who is known as the Gajapati. He calls him the King without a Kingdom, for he no longer is a King, yet at the same time, he is in a way the permanent King. The author takes us through the history of Odisha, the history of Gajapati as an institution, and how it has evolved over time. Amazing research indeed, and there is so much to learn. Kudos to the author, and thanks for giving us something which is enlightening, enthralling, and instructive

Grand book on Gajapati !!
Everything about the book is grand! Cover design, the concept, story selection, the language simple yet remarkable writing. Feel so proud to learn about the rich heritage of my state of Odisha, the great institution of Gajapati, linkage between Gajapati & Lord Jagannath and the transition of role of this institution through different period of history. Each and every chapter is so interesting. Once you start reading, you can’t leave the book before finishing. My personal favorite chapter is that on Rani Suryamani Patamahadei. I would recommend everyone to buy and read the book. Accolades to the writer for bringing out such an excellent book !!
