So I have been wanting to get a small knife as an upgrade to my very old swiss army and looked around and read a ton of reviews on various knives. I ended up looking at Kershaw knives because they're associated with Ken Onion and Shun... I own Shun knives and find them to be spectacular knives so I thought why not give some Kershaw Ken Onion designs a try. As a side note, before looking for a knife upgrade I had no idea there would be so many options and I didn't even know there was a cult following of knife collectors/etc out there. I thought it would be hard to find reviews about knives but I came to find out that there were enough reviews out there to make my head spin! So... the point is, please know that this review is from the point of view of someone who is not a knife collector and knew very little about knives/steel/etc before this. All I knew was that I wanted to get a few new knives for me and my wife and I wanted to get something that was quality as I had become accustomed to using knives as sharp as my Shun's in my kitchen. I wanted to get something extra small, small, and medium in size so I went with the Chive, Leek, and Blur. Below you'll find mini reviews on each knife that I have bought including pros and cons. On to the actual reviews! Kershaw Chive Black -------------------- Pros: 1. Compact yet fits in hand nicely (I have normal size hands) 2. Stylish! The black is really sleek and even professional looking. 3. Incredibly sharp! I think this has 420HC steel... it's razor sharp as expected with anything Ken Onion Cons: 1. Amazon's picture make it look like the handle has contours to it because of the reflections... not so. It's flat on both sides... not sure if that's a con or not but be aware that if you think there are contours in the handle, there aren't! 2. Thumb studs are useless unless you have tiny hands... 3. Can be slippery 4. Fingerprint magnet! Conclusion: Though my cons list outweigh my pros, this knife still gets 5 stars. After all, it's still a razor sharp and compact knife that's stylish to boot! The cons I have for this knife are really just nitpicking... Couldn't be happier with this one! Kershaw Leek Black -------------------- Pros: 1. Perfect size for every day carry... not too small and not too big 2. Great looking knife. The flat black looks really good IMO. 3. Incredibly sharp! The 14C28N steel is great... it's razor sharp, slightly sharper than the Chive in my opinion Cons: 1. None, this knife is pretty great. Conclusion: This knife is pretty perfect as an every day carry knife. Looks great, feels great in the hand and is very very sharp. I actually gave this one to my wife so she could keep it on her every day for her commute to and from work as sometimes she has to walk to her car in some dark spots in my neighborhood in the city. I was afraid she wouldn't use it but she actually takes it with her every day and carries it in hand every day to her car. She has said that she likes it a lot and likes the locking mechanism because she knows that when its locked the blade won't accidentally come out. Kershaw Random Leek with partially serrated blade (grey) -------------------- Pros: 1. Perfect size for every day carry... not too small and not too big... as expected with the Leek 2. Great looking knife. The flat grey looks very good in person. 3. Incredibly sharp! This leek came with s30v steel and it has not disappointed me. While I feel that all Kershaw Ken Onion knives will be razor sharp, this s30v blade seems and even looks to be sharper than the others I've mentioned in this review Cons: 1. The grey does look nice but the handle kind of has the texture of a chalk board. I'm hoping this goes away with continued use as I really don't like the feel of chalk board... Conclusion: Besides the texture of the handle, this knife seems to be perfect in every way for me. I like that it's only partially serrated with a scallop serrated edge rather than the pointy serrated edges. I never really find the pointy serrated edges that useful. The scalloped serrated edge seems much more useful to me as it gives just enough serration to cut through things without getting caught on them which is my experience with other serrated edge knives. As of right now, this knife wins as my every day carry knife. Kershaw Blur with s30v Steel -------------------- Pros: 1. Good size, has some heft to it unlike the Leek and Chive 2. The Easy-grip Trac-Tec inserts are great... give it a nice feel in the hand 3. Incredibly sharp! Having read up on the s30v steel I definitely wanted to see this one for myself. The blade on this is slightly longer than the leek and it has more of a curve to it, which makes it useful in certain situations over my trusty leek. Cons: 1. Would have liked to have a quick release speed safe mechanism on this knife like the leek and chive. The thumb studs are ok but take some getting used to if you haven't used anything like them before like me. 2. No lock... a con for me but probably a pro for others. Conclusion: All in all this knife is great. I use this knife for when I need something a bit more heavy duty than the leek and chive. SO... Which one is my favorite? If I had to choose it'd be the s30v leek with serrated edge. For me, the leek has the best size for an every day carry knife and the s30v blade just tops it off. The Chive, Leek, and Blur really do have different purposes for me though. The Chive is something I can keep in the office, the Leek is an every day carry, while the blur is more heavy duty for camping/etc when you need a heftier blade. In any case, after getting these knives I think I'll be set for quite some time in the knife department!

Great knife! Sturdy sharp and reliable. Got as a gift for the Hubble, he’s happy with the quality and feel. He says it’s weighted nicely and fits well in his hand. It clips to pant or jacket pocket for a secure feel also. Very handy to keep with you always. Perfect for gifting to your person, woman or man.

I purchased this as EDC. I knew I didn't need a rugged or tactical knife. I open a lot of boxes, mailers, straps, etc. This little knife perfectly suits my needs. The black finish looks cool but don't expect it to remain in perfect condition for very long. Especially on the blade, the finish will be messed up within a couple days of moderate use. I'm not too bothered by it. I've read a lot of reviews saying the blade comes "shaving sharp" right out of the box. Mine was pretty dull and struggled to cut through a hanging piece of paper. Fortunately, the blade is easy to sharpen and holds a decent edge. The blade lock was loose and useless when it arrived. It would easily toggle one way or the other while being carried. The screw for the lock is adjustable and could be tightened all the way down if you're not wanting to use it. I've been carrying it for a few days now without using the lock and haven't had any problems or accidental opens. The flipper takes more pressure than I anticipated to flip the blade open, so I'm not too worried about it opening in my pocket. It's surprisingly thin and light. It isn't noticeable in the pocket, yet feels sturdy and well made in the hand. The spring assist works great. Super easy to open and close with one hand whether you prefer the thumb stud or the flipper. I was on the fence with this knife or the Benchmade Mini Griptillian. The Leek is about half the price, looks better in my opinion, and is a great EDC for someone needing a well built, light duty knife. Sure, the Benchmade blade is better steel, but for my purposes I doubt I will ever notice. 5 stars, though I would probably get the plain steel finish if given the chance again as this DLC finish will not last long.

Very subtle and dare I say.... sexy, was my first impression regarding the look. However, the Leek is amazingly functional because it really is a one-hand opener. Bought this for general use, but it is totally capable for a self-defense carry. Very well crafted and machined, smooth as silk operation. Some people prefer the speed-safe taken out (as you can remove it, yourself), but I think it works tremendously and is very well implemented, especially because the Assisted Opening mechanic work so dangerously well. Chipping of the black finish coat should be expected and is normal. This is a serious blade and it comes very sharp! You seriously feel the grade of which this knife operates at. Again, it's a serious steel to pack no matter how you look at it. I still don't know how it'll stand up against hiking or camping use, but I will find out this year. I live in California with pretty good knife carrying laws. A little research would show that the Kershaw Assisted Opening mechanics are totally legal as it does not fall into the 'switch-blade' category. Make sure you read up on your local laws to psychologically prepare yourself in carrying a knife like this one. Remember that if there's ever a confrontation with the authorities concerning this knife, a good rule of thumb is to express politely that you are carrying a knife that is legal under California law. It is VERY important to be aware with current knife laws in your state. I am completely happy with this purchase. Well worth the 35 clams. I'm sure you'll feel the same once you own this Kershaw knife.

Ordered the Black Leek to replace a Kershaw Black Scallion I had for years but lost recently. It was a great knife and smaller that the Leek. After owning it I knew I wanted to stay with Kershaw with maybe a slightly larger knife this time. Ordered the Black Leek from the Blade Shoppe. They had a great price so I contacted them directly with a few questions as to whether this was a frame lock or liner lock, as I had seen a black one locally that was a liner lock with stainless liners. I much preferred the totally black look and frame lock on this model. The Blade Shoppe was incredibly fast to respond to my questions and even offered to inspect the knife prior to shipping to make sure the tip lock operated smoothly, as I have a bad finger and told them I needed to make sure it was smooth so I could disengage it easily if needed. Very impressed with their customer service so placed my order and received it two days later! Made my day. The knife is just what I expected from Kershaw. USA made, excellent fit and finish, razor sharp. Looking forward to many years of light to moderate use. Very slim, easy to carry and use. Very happy with my purchasing experience from price to service to product!

The Kershaw Leek is a classic EDC (everyday carry) knife, and has been since it launched almost 20 years ago. It’s not a great big brute of a working knife, but it’s big enough to fill your hand and give you a solid, four-finger grip on the handle. The first one I got was all black, and it stayed in my pocket for several weeks—I love it enough that I decided I wanted one of the blackwash models for everyday use—it won’t be as glaring if the blade gets scratched. So I already own two of these babies—and I see that if you really want to blow some money they now have versions with semi-precious stone handles! Tip to tip length of the open knife is 7”, blade length is 3”, and (I’m sure you can do the math, but…) the handle is 4”. Width is 1”, and the thickness of the handle without the pocket clip is about 1/4”. Blade Steel is 14C28N. This is a spring-assisted knife, meaning that when you push down on the flipper, this thing is going to FLY open. If you’re a new user and holding it too loosely it actually might fly right out of your hand, so watch it. I definitely recommend new users spend some time with this knife, opening and closing it, to get the hang of handling it (it won’t be a chore—there’s a certain fun factor in doing this!). There’s a safety at the base of the handle—just a little bar that slides up to block the blade and keep the knife from deploying in your pocket. A lot of reviewers on YouTube grump about the safety, and in truth it’s probably not necessary, but all it would take is one, one-in-a-million clash with your car keys and this very slicey three inch blade would be open in your pocket. So I have made a habit of using the safety every time I put the knife back in my pocket. The safety was a little stiff when I got the knife, but a tiny dab of oil and a tiny tweak of the screw made it slide more smoothly without being too loose. There is also a small thumb stub, so in theory you could open the knife that way, but I’ve tried it a few times and my thumb always ended up bumping against the edge of the blade after it popped open—I could probably learn how not to do that, but given the flipper works really well I’m not going to bother. The frame lock is simple enough to reach, though I have a tendon issue with my thumb so it isn’t as comfortable as, say a button lock or axis lock, but honestly with the spring assist, I’m not sure one of these other locking mechanisms would be ideal. On my first, all-black Leek it comes in somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of the width of the tang. On the black wash model it comes in right at 1/3. The latter is probably more ideal, but there is absolutely no play in the blade with either model when the blade is locked open. I like the sleek, smooth look of this knife, and it’s super slicey. It would easily cut through a seat belt if you needed it to, and I’ve already used mine to cut into that horrid plastic blister packaging—sliced right through like butter. This is a nice-looking, practical knife for light to moderate everyday use. It’s built solid, and everything looks and feels like it’s made to last. This knife is a classic for a reason.

I was looking for a light, assisted-open knife that's made in the US for daily carry and decided to give this Kershaw a try. I've been carrying this knife for nearly two years and have been wholly won over by this tuff little blade. I carry every day and am somewhat abusive to my EDC knives. Before ordering the Leek I was worried about the very pointy tip breaking off, but it's held up like a champ (use common sense for prying functions). It holds an edge remarkably well and the durability of the finish has far exceeded my expectations. This is the first knife I've had that enables me to carry "tip up", and I'm never going back. I've carried folding knives in the "tip down" position since the early 90's and tip up carry is a million times better in speed and convenience. The assisted-open mechanism is fantastic as well, I'm never going back to a "flicker". My only issue is the "safety" lever intended to keep the blade from accidently opening. I took it off about 48 hours after I started carrying the knife and it's never been an issue since. In the 2 years I've been carrying this knife without the "safety" it's only accidently opened once -and that was when I was trying to jam a bunch of crap into my pocket. It's a non-issue in my opinion. If you're looking for a light assisted open knife that's made in the US, give this a shot. I love mine and I've daily carried about 10 different folding blades in the last 25 years.

I have carried a Kershaw knife for 7 years, and have now had two of this model (lost one to forgetting to take it out of my pocket before going to the airport, hence the replacement). They are solid and well-made, ergonomically sound for someone who doesn't have huge hands, and keep an edge very well. The black powder coating is durable and doesn't scratch (other than on the blade during some admittedly abusive use). My one complaint is the lock mechanism. The first of this model had a lock that moved too easily and as a result actually sprung open in my pocket on several occasions (once resulting in a slit pocket and a heavy scratch to my leg). The replacement, which I have had for about a month, is the opposite. It takes a lot of effort to get the lock mechanism to move, which means it is very safe in my pocket but sometimes takes both hands to open. However, given a choice between safety and ease of use, I am going to go with safety every time. It's a safe, solid, dependable knife and is the knife I recommend to my friends.

Je suis très déçu par ce produit que j'ai reçu endommagé. En effet, le produit m'a été livré avec le système de sécurité cassé.(qui permet de bloquer l'ouverture de la lame) Aussi je me demande si le produit était neuf ou s'il s'agit d'un défaut de conception.
