Where Courage Began, Velma's Story by G. L. Gooding
A truly enjoyable story about the hard times in a small town. Especially endearing is the fact that the story is based on the lives of the Gooding family pre WWII. Good story with strong characters. Should be a "must read" for young students in today's world! Kudos! Gema

heart touching
The hard lives of many of our ancestors often makes us what we are today. A good and believable book.

Having Lived Near Woodward This Was Like Returning Home
Excellent story telling, and very accurate concerning the era and the area. My mother’s sister was married to one of the Tomlin’s, who had lost their farm, which was mentioned in the book. I was a bit biased, but I couldn’t put the book down. Looking forward to the next book.

Velma's speach
Felt like the dialog of the age of Velma was way too old for her age. Even way back then a young child did not talk the same as an adult. This was really hard to keep the age of the child in mind

Pretty good book
I enjoyed the book, even though it was stilted in places. I am looking forward to the second one.One thing really stands out & that the author's mother, Velma, faired much, much better than her aunt, Wilma. Velma was basically full of love, joy, had a need to learn & was the perfect daughter to her mother. Wilma, on the other hand was always griping, whining & had no desire to help anyone. I found this a bit humorous, right from the start. Goody Two Shoes vs grumble grouch. lol
