Good vacuum with an innovative brush attachment.
The basic vacuum functions work well. However, the reason I purchased this particular vacuum was because of it's pivoted brush attachment. This attachment was advertised for use to clean ceiling fan blades. Alas, when I got the vacuum and went to clean my ceiling fan blades, when I applied what I consider a reasonable pressure on the brush, it popped out of position. Furthermore, when using the brush on other surfaces, the brush keeps popping out of position making it's use quite tedious. UPDATE-My brush had a broken part. Hoover sent me a replacement for free and it works GREAT! Emptying the vacuum is VERY EASY. The dirt canister pops off of the vacuum, I take it out to my garbage can, push a button and the then dirt drops out the bottom of the canister and into the can. Terrific! I actually got one of these vacuums and sent it back because the roller-brush on the bottom did not spin when I turned the vacuum on. When I looked at the belt that drives the roller, I could see that it wasn't in contact with the motor shaft it went around. It looked like someone had forgotten to install a pulley for the belt to ride on. So I assumed it had been manufactured improperly and returned it for a replacement. When the second vacuum arrived which looked and performed the same, I called Hoover's Help line. As it turns out, the roller only spins when the vacuum's handle is released from it's vertically locked position (which is the proper handle position for vacuuming floors and carpets.) When this sunk into my thick head, it made sense that I didn't need (or want) the roller-brush to be spinning when I was cleaning my ceiling fans. I SHOULD HAVE CALLED HOOVER WHEN I HAD THE FIRST VACUUM - MY BAD! Hopfully, this review will help others see the logic Hoover applied to their vacuum's design.

Excellent vacuum for the $$, but be careful with the dust chamber lid hinge!
I have had this new vacuum for over a month now and am still impressed by it. I needed to replace my almost 10 year old Hoover UH70825 because small plastic parts started breaking and there is only so much you can fix with ducktape! I did a fair amount of research and landed on this one again. The PRICE is AWESOME! Kept all the things I liked about the old vac, and fixed most of the faults. Excellent suction on all floor types. Excellent performance on cat hair, and litter. You have to love the cord rewind. The hose stretches forever, great for overhead, along with the interesting swivel head brush (new). I am not a fan of the new rubber roller for the pet attachment (it stops too easily on upholstery), but I kept the older brush roller version which I DO LIKE. The carpet brush on/off foot switch is a great addition and the carpet brush turns off when you stand up the handle (the old vac did not have this and I almost ruined an area rug while using the hand tool). The on/off switch is still a little low on the back of the handle, but then I already was used to that (less than ideal) location. HOOVER WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind Bagless Corded Upright Vacuum UH71250 This vac is easy to empty, and clean out. The whole vortex chamber is now extremely easy to take apart and clean out. I clean it out every time I use it because it is so easy. The times I cleaned out my older vac I had to get out my tools and electric screw driver. A WORD OF WARNING: The dust chamber lid (on the bottom) has a plastic hinge! Be careful when handling the lid, it is easy to break the pins and sockets. The older vac had exactly the same hinge, which I broke the first year I had it - but I used it for years with a jerry-rigged ducktape hinge. It was not a deal breaker for me, just be aware and careful. Overall this is still and excellent choice, especially for under $100!

Very loud but works well
The brush tool on/off is confusing - up for on and down for off. It picks up very well, I haven't used it much yet, but it picked up dog hair and the little pieces of Styrofoam from unpacking it. It Is very loud and the brush roller makes its own noise. It doesn't seem really heavy for a full size vacuum and is easy to push on setting #2. Update: I've haciendo a few days now and used it for different things. It really has great suction. I have vaulted ceilings, about 9' on the high side, I was able to reach up to collect a little spider ( I did have to go up on tippy ties). So, it has great reach with the wand. I used the adjustableb dusting brush to clean my ceiling fan - it wouldn't hold still so I had to get on a small stool so I could hold it still, but it adjusted so I could clean the tops of the blades. I then cleaned my window tracks with the crevice tool, that did a great job as we!l. The canister is easy to remove and empty. Just have to remember to empty be for the stuff gets up around the funnel -shaped better part, then to will have to reach in and pull stuff out.

There are many many reasons why I gave this 5 star review (other than weight)
This is now my 5th vacuum since we started trying to find a replacement for my old "Sears Canister" with a steel hose self propelling model, that was so blooming heavy my poor back required a day off after using. I am not joking that model weight 27lbs that had to be dragged behind. Not a good idea if you have serious back pain. What we tried: I tried battery powered vacuums that were great on weight, horrible on battery life that needed 18 hour charge to clean half of a 1250 square foot house (the charge only lasted 20 minutes). It went back. I tried small cup vacuums that boasted easy cleaning, but literally having to dump the cup, which would drop all over the place when trying to empty requiring YOU to lift it out, carry it over to the garbage, etc. You get it. Messy and cleaned ONE room per dump. That went back. We have laminate flooring which is difficult at best and close to impossible to keep clean. It can't use beaters and even the wheels can cause floor scuffing. Don't get on me about getting the floors actually "clean" since you can't use water on them. If we had known, well hindsight is more 20/20 then prior. And when you have throw rugs down, even room size rugs are problematic because NO BEATERS can hit the flooring but required on the rugs to remove dirt, and my husband has severe eczema that runs in his family; he literally "snows" with skin. Outside of a Rainbow, I have yet had a found a vacuum that I truly Love. And if we could have gotten a Rainbow (again, problematic due to laminate flooring, any wet equals ruin) we would have even with the cost factor. However, weight again is a huge consideration and again, having to drag a canister behind, isn't what was needed. This vacuum (The Wind Tunnel) has met our severe needs! Why it works: --It can clean up little piddly dust off of laminate flooring which is difficult to do. This floor creates static cling which makes everything stick. And it also can pick up bigger chunks without sending them across the floor (another vacuum flaw we encountered at a vacuum store). It cleans edges well which most uprights don't do that well, but this one works well. And if you need your moulding clean, there's an attachment that does it well. --It has an "off" beater switch that you can turn off /on with your foot. The attachments actually work and make sense for your needs. They aren't cheaply built and the bristles on them also are strong enough to use on upholsteries to actually move and pick up hair and dust. And remember me saying about Moulding? It can "do an excellent job" on them as well. --The self winding cord is amazing. It's so much better than the ratcheted wind which sometimes work, but mostly what it did is crazily wind the cord and hit your feet, your legs in the process. The cord is more than sufficient for its length at 25 feet. It has a cord holder at the top of the back of the machine. It's a easy fix to a lifelong problem of having to wrap the cord around your neck or shoulders in the process of vacuuming! And not dragging, having to move the cord all over the place in order to vacuum helps when you have body pain and energy requirements. I emptied the barrel after 2 full vacuums. It was needed. It was one handed, after I removed the container. It was easy to do, and the no touch feature was okay. You still have to pull out any heavy pieces like hair, etc with your hands, but that's okay when you don't have to dump the whole thing trailing dust as you're doing it. What is missing: It does NOT have a light. It would have been nice for Hoover to at least include a LED light on the machine for dark areas. It's a personal pet peeve that many don't include lights, because it is a weakness. Outside of that point (and it's not that lightweight), it is less stress on the back and less hard to wrestle with the vacuum to use, making it ideal for us. I hope this review helps others making up their mind. The brands we have had tried included both Bissell, and Shark. The decision to buy this one wasn't because of its great price (which it is), but because it could do what we needed it to do which is vacuum the floor with less hassle and pain.

Knot pleased eith the vacuum.
Second time purchasing a Hoover Elite. The Hoover Elite Wind Tunnel II that I purchased prior to this was a great vacuum cleaner until the rewind broke and the plug cracked. It is still a good vacuum for the basement. The Hoover Elite Wind Tunnel III just arrived. We couldnt get the screw to line up to attach the handle. They holes to put the screw through that holds the handle on were not aligned straight so my husband had to drill an xtra hole in the casing to attach the handle. The dusting brush is totally useless. The hinged brush doesnt wast to stay in the correct position and flips around. They also made it bigger and ita harder to clean small areas. I like the small non- positional brush from the old vacuum. The dirt cannister is also hard to open to clean the filter. Its a little tricky to put back together if tou take it apart. Cleans well but not as pleased with it as the older version. I would of purchased another brand if I knew these faults.

Has all the options I wanted for an awesome price!
Amazing suction power on this vacuum! I wanted a retractable cord, bag less, HEPA vacuum. This is what I chose. As soon as I used it, I knew I chose right. In one pass, it picked up more than my old vacuum ever did. Hoover is a trusted name in vacuums and I should have gone back to Hoover long ago. I saw in the reviews that the bottom dirt hatch has a less than durable hinge. I'll just have to be careful of it. If it breaks, Hoover can fix it on my warranty. The rest of the vacuum looks good and operates great. I am so happy I don't have to wind up the cord by hand anymore. Awesome price for this vacuum!

Awful Overall
This vacuum has incredible suction and does a great job on carpet as long as the carpet is firmly attached to the floor. It winds throw rugs of any size right up and instantly starts overheating before you can turn the power off and wrestle the rug back out of the vacuum head. This is even on the highest setting. It is very heavy and awkward to maneuver. It doesn't fit under furniture. The attachments constantly fall off of the vacuum. When in use, they don't work very well. The brush just swivels around like a broken wrist. The telescoping hose won't stay telescoped - it keeps collapsing back into itself. The cord is too short and won't wind back up like it's supposed to. The filters are impossible to get out, so we can't clean them like you're supposed to be able to do. You can dump out the dirt collection container fairly easily, but a lot of dirt/fur gets caught in the upper part of the container and won't come out. You have to fish around with your finger or a long stick to dig out dirt - and this is with emptying it after every use, not even letting it build up for more than one vacuum. It's so loud we have to wear hearing protection every time we vacuum. The last Hoover we owned was the best vacuum ever. Unfortunately, they quit making that one. We wanted another Hoover based on that one, but this Hoover is a disgrace. Don't waste your money on this model.

Good Vacuum
I had a vacuum that was sooo maneuverable, but my dad broke it each time he used it. Eventually it wouldn’t stand up on its own any more because he broke the plastic base… …Enter the WindTunnel2! My dad saw this vacuum and said it was the same one they use at work. He vouched for the quality. We bought it. When the vacuum arrived, the first thing I noticed was that it was a good deal heavier than I expected. I’m not strong, so that’s rough… Anyhow, the maneuverability is average. It doesn’t have any automatic drive assist function, so you need to push and pull it all with your own strength. I miss the light on the front of the old vacuum… The things this vacuum has going for it: It’s sturdy and built to last. The suction power is pretty great! It has a True HEPA filter, so you don’t blast the house with dust when you vacuum. The waste collection container is rather large. It’s basic, so there’s little that can go wrong. My dad loves the vacuum. I don’t because of the lack of lighting, maneuverability, and the heft of it. I think it’s a good vacuum for his house because although he is delicate with things, he was strong enough to totally destroy a lighter-weight vacuum. The on switch is also in a strange place. It’s a little finger switch on the middle back of the place where the waste container sits. It’s not intuitive. Every time I use the vacuum, I need to look for the switch. I think Hoover did a great job on this vacuum. Maybe I can add a flashlight to the front or something. It shouldn’t be too hard. Otherwise, it’s a formidable foe for dust and dirt and carpet fluff!

Great vacuum.
Arrived timely. Would definitely deal with again. The vacuum was very easy to put together. Suction power is very good. Can't believe how much dog hair was in the carpet.
