Stay with this for gradual fitness improvement
I'm happy I made the decision to purchase the Tai Cheng workout kit. I'm 59, about 5-10 and 200 lbs. In the last five years, I've been lighter and in good enough shape to run three (slow) half marathons. Knee issues have curtailed my running and lately I've battled a sciatic nerve issue. I saw Tai Cheng on an infomercial and it seemed maybe just what I needed -- a low impact workout with a lot of stretching.I'm ready to start week five, proud I've done the workout 24 times without fail. The first three weeks were fairly easy, the same 18 minute warmup, followed by a new Tai Chi move. The second level (week four) has been longer with more difficult stretches added. The workouts are not really tiring and I don't expect to quickly get in great shape or lose weight. However, I am becoming confident the 15-week program will provide a gradual improvement in my fitness. My goal is to get back to running 3-5 miles a few times a week. I am also a bowler and hope the emphasis and balance and posture improves my game.I've done other workout videos, like P90X, and really give high marks to Dr. Cheng. He provides helpful tips and reminders throughout the workout. The kit is high-quality and includes some helpful material like a calendar and an interesting eating guide.Again, this is a low-impact workout that won't leave you sweating and out of breath. But I am confident that staying with it will provide more benefits than I realize.

Probably 3.5 stars is more accurate...
I almost gave this product three stars but that seems a little unfair as it is a good DVD set. Four stars seems a little too generous though so, if I could, I would rate this with 3.5 stars and here's why:My boyfriend is in week two and, so far, the neural reboot is the same every single time and it gets so monotonous. I dont thimk this is really motivating for my boyfriend to keep going. Even though the instructor seems knowledgeable and competent, he lacks the charm of Tony Horton, for instance. With P90X, those DVDs never seem to get old. Master Cheng, on the other hand, is a little dry and sometimes lackluster.Beyond that, this gift has served the recipient well so far and seems to help his restless legs and tight back.

A good program, but flawed by the user interfact
There are a ton of great things about this video, but three factors quickly took me away from "I am going to do this every day" to "oh yea, that video". 1) As noted extensively, the ads are much more than annoying. You are forced to go through them every time you insert the DVD, after you watch (ads to buy vitamins) and as you transition from one day to another. Come on! 2) Beach body has over embraced the 90 day revolution model. Not every exercise program provides results in 90 days, some programs don't need 90 days, and not everyone needs 90 days. Anyone studying the more introspective martial arts fully understands that progress comes over time, and that the journey is really the thing. Trying to force fit such a program into 90 days is, well, silly. But the 90 day concept is so integrated into the system that you have to actively work to overlook it. 3) the reboot/warmup is repeated every day during each cycle. Yep, no change, no new information. The same jokes, the same facial expressions, the same instruction. Although I understand how this approach saves money, I found it so repetitive that I ended up fast forwarding past it.On the positive side, Cheng is clear and precise in his instructions, and I found his concepts useful and easy to understand. But, one must work through an annoying user interface to reach his pearls of wisdom. Here's hoping Cheng finds another distributor who better understands that not everyone is looking for 90 day insanity.

Very good program
I got this workout because of knee and ankle injuries. This workout is part physical therapy, part yoga, and part tai chi. It is do-able for the most part. I wonder if I am doing the exercises (like the bretzel correctly and I do not move as slowly as recommended. Such are the foibles of any video program. The program is divided into phases or sections. Basically the sections add additional exercises. There is a big jump in phase 4, in that much harder stretches are added. Each phase has a movement exercise reboot, a yoga/ stretching exercise series (same as some of the things I did in physical therapy), foam rolling for leg and other muscles, and a series of tai chi moves which fit together to for an 18 movement series at the end. There are modifications for the exercises so those,of us who are less fit or flexible can do them.I am completing the last week of the program this week. It has helped my injuriesand increased my ability to move. I particularly liked the foam rolling for the quad muscles. Must of been what I needed. The tai chi is a simplified form, done on both sides. Just as good as the yang short form. Overall I like the program, it will not cause injuries as some of the more insane exercise programs might do. In my case it seemed to help my injuries. I am not sure what the follow up/ continuation is but I would be interested

This Tai Cheng base kit workout is forgiving for aging bodies … and keeps me agile
Thanks This Tai Cheng 4 DVD bundle includes a Guidebook, Nutrition Guide, weekly calendar, quick start guide, and Tai Cheng equipment: strength band, Tai Cheng Foam Roller and floor tape measure. This is adequate instructions and paraphernalia for learning Tai Chi. This base workout kit aims at teaching 18 Tai Chi moves in 90 days. This is a lot! Hey, I’m no completist ,.. I’ve mastered about 10 of these moves and I’m very proud of my 50% achievement :))Completing all 18 Tai Chi moves is my long term goal … certainly no 90day timeline for me … I’m retired so I’m taking EVERYTHING slowly :)Seriously though. This Tai Cheng base kit workout is forgiving for aging bodies … and keeps me agile … Now that’s a young description 👍Hope my review was helpful … Jeffrey A. (Jeff)
