Pros: - Good quality ingredients with limited grains - Designed to meet established AAFCO nutritional levels - No corn, wheat, or soy - Attractive price on Amazon - Rat Terrier approved Cons: - None at the moment Personal Experience: I have a 27 pound Rat Terrier and a new 12 week old Decker Rat Terrier puppy that both enjoy the Canidae dry dog food. I have switched dog foods frequently over the years (I have always been careful to gradually ease the transition as to not upset my dog's stomach) because my adult Rat Terrier can be a rather pick eater when it comes to some dog foods. There have been dog foods I have tried in the past that are highly reviewed with excellent ingredients, but unfortunately probably didn't taste appetizing to my dog. For example, I tried Nature's Domain and some of the Science Diet line but both were unappetizing to my dog. The cheaper dog foods seem to be appealing to my dog, likely because they use a lot of fat and other cheap ingredients that probably taste good to dogs. It reminds me of why I like cheap double cheese burgers from McDonalds... In any case, aside from my adult Rat Terrier liking this food, I always check dog foods I am interested in potentially purchasing against the free websites dogfoodadvisor and dogfoodinsider to get a more accurate analysis of the ingredients. Reviews on Amazon can be quite subjective and even the most knowledgeable dog-owners generally are not the absolute best experts on all the effects of each dog food ingredient. Hence why I use those two websites. Canidae Dry Dog food, Chicken Meal and Rice, scored 4 stars on both of dog food review sites (which is an excellent score). In addition to my adult Rat Terrier enjoying the food, my little puppy gobbles it up too! It's perfect that the Canidae dog food is for all life stages! Conclusion: Quality dog food with good ingredients (confirmed through analysis by dogfoodadvisor and dogfoodinsider) and my adult and puppy Rat Terriers enjoy the food. It is well-priced on Amazon for the quality and amount. I definitely recommend this dog food.

My labradoodle loves Canidae dry and wet food. She scarfs it up! This food is perfect for all dogs and is easy on the stomach. The chicken and rice flavor is my dogs favorite but it comes in other flavors. This food is great value for the money! I would recommend this!

For the price, this dog food is phenomenal. To be perfectly honest, it has a more grain than I would like -- the three ingredients following chicken meal are brown rice, white rice, and rice bran. Some other Canidae recipes have less grain, which may be worth looking into. However, as I mentioned above, the price is great for the high quality you're getting. My dog thoroughly enjoys the food, and she's bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Before I tried Canidae, my dog was on a poor dog food because I did not know any better. Since being on Canidae, her coat has improved enormously, and she absolutely LOVES it. I feed her from the IQ Treat Ball, which stimulates her mind and also helps her not hork down her food. Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase! High-quality food for a decent price!

Did a lot of research and read a lot before I chose this brand and this product. They have their own plant: it's made in the USA, as are their ingredients; they don't try to fool you with the whole "Real whatever is the 1st ingredient" thing*, and use what is really the best which is chicken meal (they have another flavor which has various meat and fish meals--equally good); the 30 lb. bag comes to only about $1.17/lb.; and they add probiotics and Omega-3s after cooking (both won't survive cooking). There is a grain-free version, but I just wanted to get corn and wheat out of my dogs' diets to avoid arthritic tendencies in my older dog (It worked for me, so why not for my dog!). I also like that this is good for all life stages and all sizes, since I have a large (70 lbs.) senior dog and a small (10 lbs.) adult (4 yr. old) dog. Understand that I truly believe that most companies create "healthy" pet food trends in order to make money, and that pet owners are ripped off constantly by all this stuff. So they had to work hard to win me over. Four stars instead of five because I think the protein content is a little high (unlike pet food companies, no vet will tell you this is good for your dog, especially if the protein content comes from plants [peas, beans]). *In case you don't know what I mean by the "Real whatever...": order of ingredients is by weight. In REAL chicken or beef or whatever, most of that is pre-cooked water content. In meal, it is true substance. But do remember, the meal should be from chicken, beef, etc. There is a difference between chicken meal and poultry byproducts meal.

Great product with low fiber and great ingredients. Our female choc. Labrador retriever is 85 lbs of strong healthy body at 5 years old all on Canadae Products. Some bags tend to have mare broken pellets. I think this is due more to the handling of the bags.

My two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and one Labrador Retriever are no pushovers. Even other varieties of highly regarded Canidae food have left them looking up at me over lightly rearranged bowls of food with that 'Why have you turned against us again?' look. But whenever I bring home the thirty-pound bags of Canidae Chicken Meal and Rice, the dogsters nose hungrily around the car before I can even get the stuff out of the trunk. I've long since settled on Canidae (for its reputation as nutritious and high-quality) and on the Chicken Meal and Rice (for the predictability factor with my threesome). Things just got better, however, when I realized that my Amazon Prime membership allows me to order a thirty-bound bag for second-day delivery at no cost (in fact, it usually arrives the next day) at a price lower than what I was paying locally. This has allowed me to move to a just-in-time delivery service, which cuts down on the storage needs and may be attractive for other owners of multiple and/or large dogs.

When I learned that some dogs who were fed a grain-free diet were developing heart problems, I wanted to switch my female dog from her food (Canidae Pure Senior) to something with grain in it. However, she has digestive issues and has loose stool at the slightest change in food, so I thought it would be best to switch her to a dog food by the same brand with the same main protein source to at least ease the transition. However, it didn't work, and she still got loose stool. I'm not blaming the food; it's just how my dog is, unfortunately. We went back to the Canidae Pure and stayed on that instead.

Our Rhodesian Ridgebacks were on this food some years back and we moved, thus losing access to it at the new location. I am very glad to see Amazon carrying Canidae and that it's available using the Prime Membership! We have fed many, many dogs the Canidae when we we were fostering rescue dogs (an average of 3 new dogs a month for years) and it was the only food NONE of them ever had any trouble eating & digesting. Our own pack has a couple of members with soy allergies, so I'm careful about what we feed. They have been back on the Canidae for a few months now with no drama at all. The switch from their old food back to the Canidae was easy and stress free and all 6 dogs scarf it down like it was prime rib. (or you know...a squirrel) Even my father's Chihuahua likes it and that little diva used to think she could only eat human food! I have been able to cut back by a half cup on the daily ration for our largest dog as he was putting extra weight on with his previous amount from the old food. Everyone's coat is soft and shiny, they all have loads of energy and are generally in excellent overall health - that doesn't happen with the grocery store bargain foods. Again, I am VERY VERY glad to see the big bags of Canidae available from Amazon!!
