A beast!
Thus does not use wire cord but rather a heavy dacron type, printable had hundreds of lbs break weight. The lock keeps it from moving but you would need pretty serious weight attached to worry about that.Great for heavy wet socks with reels etc.

Solid unit
The unit is larger then I thought and my last unit had a wire cable so I'm curious to see how durable this fiber cable is.

Keeps your Dive Computer safe
This has enough pull strength to keep you expensive dive computer from dragging or free floating. I have a Oceanic 3.0 and put the key-ring through the molded loop on my computer and can detach it easily from the reel after diving with the attached quick disconnect buckle. The stainless hook looks to be 100% stainless so salt water should not affect it. I could not find from the manufacturer what the spring was made of but figure if it rusts it will still work for years before it breaks. I will buy one of these for my son who liked mine.

Cool...but there are more reliable solutions
I purchased this to keep my scuba console controlled while diving. While I was demonstrating it to my wife, one of the prongs on the ring side broke off when the line snapped back into the spool side. It's plastic, but more brittle than expected. The force is indeed strong with this one. You really have to pull on it to get it to unspool and it will snap back with a lot of force if you let go by accident like I did.As cool as this retractor seems, I ultimately decided on a much simpler solution that is unlikely to break or fail.
