For those of us who like to do good work, but like me, need every benefit to have any chance of getting by, this is a tool to have. It is well made, accurate, easy to use. In short it's a first class instrument.It is a precision instrument that requires some care, not for most kids usually, but is built to last a long time.It works well on any flat surface with marine and aviation charts, land maps, orienteering, compass work, surveying. Or at home drawing anything from house plans to a kid's toy box.CAD, on the computer has taken control of drawing plans, to the benefit of all of us. But there are times when the computer may not be the best solution. Or it's handier to do the work by hand. Or, uuuh, there are some people less skilled in CAD....

Nice and sturdy and very well built. The brass adds a little old school appeal.

Easy to move the parallel rulers. Precise measurements.

It looks and works well. A little too long for the small booklet charts used for coastal navigation. A 12 inch arm model would have been a better choice if available.
