After you twist the wires into the wire nut, which end of the wire nut do you insert into the tube, the open end or the closed end?

Interesting question. It might be better to bend the wires around the nut and insert that way. The grease inside the tube might enter the open end of the nut better and seal out moisture. I have been just inserting the nut in the tube, sort of pull it back and forth a bit to bury the nut in the grease and then place the unit in a hole with the closed end up so free water can not run into the tube by gravity if it becomes saturated. So far none have failed, however.

Can I use these underwater to extend 3 X 18 gauge wire to pond pump?

I don’t think that would be a good idea, at least I would not do it. If its not shielded you could put it in PVC pipe, or just buy a length long enough.

if spliced wire gets wet will it disrupt the loop ?

These are similar to the splices that came with my fence kit. Only better. I always make sure the twist lock is immersed in the grease inside the splice, and also position the splice with the closed end up so rain water seeping in will not get inside. They have worked for years for me with no failures and we have been getting a lot of rain.

Our dogs got ahold of one of these and chewed it up and most likely swallowed most of it. Do you know if the gel inside is toxic?

It is silicone...once exposed to air, it hardens quickly. If your dogs are okay now...they will continue to be...they will poop it out quick.
