A innocent child's fate in a hateful other world filled with dangers and mythical creatures!
Small child Asahi''s life could not get any better than having loving and wonderful parents,. Until she is pulled into another world by a magical pool of water in her garden pond. Once in this other world she is so scared and lost and adopted by a small boy called Subaru. He takes her to his village and their his parents think of her as a threat. This world is not like Modern Japan Subaru is very idiotic and not at all smart for a little boy. he tries his best to help her but is ultimately defeated. His evil mother and the villagers sacrifice her to the water God. Once she meets the Dragon God it all goes down hill. The Water God is ultimately annoying and uncaring of humans and their ways he lives in an empty white place with nothing to do. He does have friends. The Water God cares about Asahi as she cares nothing for him or his ways. He even takes her voice. He very nearly kills her with starvation if that where not bad enough when she goes back to the village and to Subaru the mother tries again to kill her by burning her with hot water! Almost to the point of death and mute the Water God comes again to her not understand her he thinks she is his "entertainment" he saves her life unknowingly. This first book is good but not great the story of Asahi's fate in this hateful world It is very dark and uncaring. You feel so much for her fate and how much you just want for her to get out of this world before she truly gets herself killed by these horrible village people.I like this story and I want to see the outcome of her fate!. 6 volumes are in all I cant wait to see what is Asahi's fate along with Subaru and the Water God!

Surprisingly serious, but beautiful
This story is a lot more serious than one would expect, so if you're expecting a sweet shoujo romance, this isn't for you. That's not to say this isn't a beautifully rendered tale that one wouldn't get enraptured in, only that shouldn't go into this manga expecting a classic cliche love story. It's the tale of a young girl taken from her world and thrown into feudal era Japan where she encounters many hardships and is nearly killed several times, and is forced to grow up quickly in order to survive in this dangerous new world. It is a story of survival, yet frienship blooms through it all which gives the girl the strength to keep going despite her trials. Although this definitely does not start out as a love story, I sense a lot of room for character growth in the three main characters, so I feel that the situation could change in the future depending on how their relationships evolve. The art is beautiful, the chatacter constructs are realistic and well thought out, and the whole story flowed effortlessly without chaffing or feeling off in any way.Definitely not a story for the faint of heart expecting a sweet shojou romance. It is serious and sometimes cruel, but it focuses on the heroine's personal growth as she is forced to overcome nearly impossible odds in order to survive, and personally I think that kind of story is beautiful, not for the horrible pain that she experiences, but that she is able to get up and continue onwards and not let herself be defeated by these experiences. It is a story of trials and pain and growth.

Conflicted on this story
I love fantasy, and I love any type of mythological water god/creature, and the art work in this manga was good. I just can’t get over how creepy it is that the god is gonna wait for a child to mature so he can marry her. It just comes off like straight up grooming to me. Usually with fantasy stories, I am able to suspend my disbelief/normal morals and I can accept some things that I wouldn’t in the real world. But she is literally like 7-9 years old, and he is drawn as an adult, I just can’t. I really wanted to like this but idk.

The pond is alive!
This was an impulse buy, and I had no idea if it would be worth buying or not. I was a little worried that it might turn out to be a bodice ripper type of story, but it’s more along the vein of Inuyasha. It’s cuter in that although it has some serious situations like sacrifice and threat of war, everything tends to turn out well.

Loved it, can't wait for more!
It's only the first volume so I can't really give anything I dislike- except maybe that I wish it was longer :)The artwork is beautiful, the flow of the story so far is great, I love Subaru's determination and kind spirit. I am very eager to see how Asahi and the water dragon god change throughout the entire story. If you'd like to compare this to something I would liken it a bit to Kamisama Hajimemashita (Hajimemashite? I can't remember, but it's otherwise known as Kamisama Kiss). Just in the way that the fox demon starts out as cold and slowly he begins to change and all. I loved that and I get the feeling I'll love this.

A love for fantasy romance
4 volumes so far and Rei Toma has yet again given me a reason to love her , just like her previous dawn of arcana where you have a love triangle , the beautiful art and intriguing story. The water dragon reminds me of prince ceaser , cold at first (tsundere ) but warms up to the main protagonist ... This is so far one of my favourite shojo manga

Protagonista infantil cativante e poderosa!
Chega apertar o peito do leitor! Rei Toma mostra como mundo é assustador para uma criança... mas ainda assim há esperança. Subaru - o menino que a encontrou não irá desistir de achá-la. E, assim, a trama, ao meu ver, se enche de engenhos...

Adorable
Its a great set up... Fingers crossed it keeps up the momentum. Also the art is beautiful and the water got scenes are drawn in such a way that it looks watery.

Intriguing, cute story about a girl and a emotionless, bored god who plays with others' feelings
The drawing style is very pleasing, story is pretty engaging and interesting. Overall more on the dark side. Give it a try. I'll probably get the next volume after I finish reading other stuff :)
