Good rice that takes a while to cook

perfect for risotto nero!

This black rice (a.k.a. "forbidden rice") from Italy lacks instructions on how to cook it, and an online search makes things confusing since measurements and methods vary. Since I had cooked another brand of black rice in my rice cooker, I went with that method and some guesswork. I used the brown rice setting -- I had no idea which setting I had used before -- and it cooked up perfectly. The downside of using a rice cooker is that black rice is a lot messier than either white or brown rice since it bubbles up with a purple hue. Rising the rice beforehand helps minimize it, but it doesn't prevent it. I would have rather cooked it on the stove. The result, as I cooked it, was delicious. Black rice is healthier than white rice, and it makes a dramatic visual effect in a rice bowl. The flavor is somewhat nutty, and the grains separate well. I wish I knew the water to rice ratio and the approximate timing for stovetop absorption cooking (not boiling.) So delicious. A step above white rice. Black grain has a nice full body chew.

Maybe I did not prepare the rice correctly but I was not a fan and my family was not either.

This black rice is very hard to find. ive only found it on here. i think its better than white rice, Unfortunately the carbs are the same about 35 g not good if your watching what you eat for type 2 diabetes. It has a nutty flavor to it. I have a rice maker so it comes out perfect every time

This rice is good by itself or mixed with white rice (if you are looking for purple rice). Can be cooked easily in a rice cooker or instapot. No problems cooking on the stove. Even easy to cook in a microwave rice cooker, 22 minutes and perfect rice. Taste is great. Good value and very healthy.

I love rice and had read of the health benefits with black rice. I was hopeful this product would be good but unfortunately it’s really not. I finally ate it with some Thai curry. I don’t think I will ever buy it again.

Ich bin ein großer Fan von schwarzem Reis, aber beim Riso Scotti Venere bin ich „hängengeblieben“. Es gibt für mich schlichtweg keine Alternative: Nur diese Marke hat diesen unverwechselbaren, herrlich nussigen Geschmack, der den Reis so besonders macht. Die Qualität ist hervorragend, die Körner haben einen tollen Biss und das Aroma ist einfach fantastisch. Einziges Manko: Da ich in Deutschland lebe, ist der Preis für diese 500g-Packung leider recht hoch. Trotzdem kaufe ich ihn immer wieder nach, weil der Geschmack einfach nicht zu ersetzen ist und bei anderen Marken meistens das gewisse Etwas fehlt. Wer authentischen, aromatischen schwarzen Vollkornreis sucht und Wert auf diesen speziellen nussigen Geschmack legt, kommt an Riso Scotti nicht vorbei. Eine absolute Empfehlung für alle Feinschmecker! Mein Tipp für die Zubereitung: Ich koche ihn ganz simpel in etwas Gemüsebrühe und serviere ihn am Ende nur mit hochwertigem Olivenöl und etwas Parmesan – diese Kombination unterstreicht das nussige Aroma perfekt.

Das ist mein absoluter Lieblingsreis, er hat so ein tolles eigenes Aroma, perfekt, so fein. Bin sonst überhaupt kein Reis- Esser, wenn, dann ausschliesslich VENERE Reis. Top Empfehlung!
