Very helpful book and maps.
This book really helped me plan my trip to Kyoto, what to see while there and which way to go. Even has suggested agenda.

Concise info about Kyoto main sites and a great Kyoto map
The map is great! Just like Tokyo map, this one will really help you get around the city. This book doesn't list all the sites you can visit around Kyoto but covers major ones. It was helpful and is easy to carry in your back pocket which isn't true about a lot of guides.

Handy reference for a couple days in Kyoto
Was looking for a handy pocket guide to avoid expensive data minutes while in Kyoto for 2 days - this book was it. Good suggestions for walking among various sites, helpful background to help plan activities and nice pull out map. It gave good hints on public transport that were easy to adjust to specific locations using local websites while in wifi area. Photos and short descriptions were good. Overall, a helpful guide for the top sites. If staying more than a few days, you may want a book with even more site info/history listed or use a city-specific visitor website.

Great Short Book for Travel Planning
Though not as descriptive as I would have liked, this book is still very informative. It even provides near by locations to visit, to each point of interest. The map is also useful in planning a trip, so as you read you can follow directions on the map. I would highly recommend this as well asFrommer's EasyGuide to Tokyo, Kyoto and Western Honshu.

Excellent for the rookies
Very informative and easy to follow. Websites highlighted are most helpful, biggest problem one would have is choosing which of the many choices to see if your time is limited. Only negative is the maps are a little hard to read, plus the hard copy has the actual reference at hand.

This travel guide is OK. I bought this book ...
This travel guide is OK. I bought this book and 29 Walks by J. H. Martin. In my opinion, 29 Walks is much more interesting, but this book is much smaller. The maps in these books are the same.

Very useful travel book
I'm very pleased with this travel guide. I used it for a short stay in Kyoto and a one day visit to Nara and it was very useful! There is so much to see and do that it was good to get an idea of what to do, a little of the history & back ground and advice on what else to see nearby. The maps are very useful as they highlight the attractions as well as the usual map features. It would be good if it were a little lighter, but for the size of the book it wasn't bad. Money well spent.

Invaluable
Bought this for a recent trip to Japan.the Kyoto section contained some interesting extras that aren't usually available in a guide book and the suggested walking tours were very useful for an 'urban hiking' family.

Handy
Was a useful guide for when I had to get around when my son (who lives in Japan) had to work. I travelled to Nara on my own from were my son lived & stayed 2 nights. This book helped on working out which hotel to book in relation to the sites I wanted to visit & wasn't to big or heavy
