Really noce
The matcha flavor is really amazing in this one. It spreads nicely, too. The jar was wrapped tightly in lots of bubble wrap and it arrived unbroken. I do, however, think it’s rather expensive for the amount of product you get, which is why only four stars.

Unlucky Delivery
Normally my food packages are delivered on my doorstep, but this one was in the delivery mailbox. This would have been ok if the lid had not been damaged, breaking the seal on the jar. This food product now sat for a hot 24 hours in a metal box, and we don't trust eating it. I also can't return it, so I am eating the cost of the product. I won't order this again.

Delicious but a tad bit too sweet
I love red bean paste, it’s a staple in my home. I use it as filling for all sorts of breakfast and pastries. This Anko Red Bean Spread with Butter is a bit different from the red bean paste I usually use. This spread is much sweeter and there are pieces of red bean with the paste. Very rich red bean flavor with butter mixed it. Great on toast and vanilla ice cream. I like to add milk and a spoonful of this spread and blend in the mixer to make a red bean drink which is delicious. They sell this drink at the Chinese bakeries which they call “red bean ice”. Since there’s butter mixed it, it will feel a bit greasy when mixing inside a drink. I won’t be able to use it as a filling since it’s pretty watery vs the ones I usually use. Best as a spread. Very pricey at $19 for a small jar. Worth a try though.

Good
I use red bean paste all the time for taiyaki and mochi, but this stuff is different. It's flavor is similar to when you mix melted butter with jam (like on toast). It has a nice, buttery sweet flavor, that takes on the adzuki bean taste rather than fruit. It works quite well, and it's very tasty on toast, pancakes and other confections. The paste itself is pretty chunky, with larger chunks of the bean left in. The texture is nice, and it's still plenty paste-like enough to spread easily. It gives a loud pop when opening, which makes it evident when it's seal is still intact. The price is silly though. It's imported from Japan, so the price is probably high because of that, but it's not really worth $19. I would value it closer to $5, but the flavor is tasty and worth trying if you're an adzuki bean fan.I ordered this June 2022, and the jar is marked Best by January 2023. Made in Japan. Refrigerate after opening.

Arrived completely crushed
The media could not be loaded. Wished I could have enjoyed this. But it was completely smashed and I could tell my how squishy the bag was.

smooth, sweet, earthy, and rich
I lived in Japan for quite some time so I've tried a lot of anko in my life. This is very authentic in terms of the texture and flavor. I used this on my morning toast and I really liked how easy it was to spread (at room temperature) and how smooth it is (for anko). The butter adds a richness to it and stops the bread from getting soggy. The flavor profile was as I expected. It's sweet, but not too sweet, and the red beans bring an earthiness to it. The butter also stops the beans from making the toast soggy as the fat creates a barrier. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would have it again as an alternative to jam.

A New Way To Top A Piece Of Toast By Using Red Bean And Butter Instead Of Jam and Butter
If you are a fan of red beans similar to Adzuki beans then you must give this Anko Spread With Butter a try. The 9.8oz bottle holds a red bean spread that can be enjoyed on toast. Unlike traditional red beans in the can, this spread includes additional ingredients such as butter, glucose, and agar. The spread has a texture to it as there are actual bean bits included but it isn't what I would describe as chunky. It is easily spreadable on your favorite toast, muffin, biscuit, pancake, waffle, or croissant. I found the spread pleasant but was surprised how prominent the butter flavor notes were to me. The spread is sweet for me but I prefer less sweetened foods. I had hoped to use this product in recipes like halo halo or a homemade red bean Jell-o similar to how I include canned red beans but because of the butter addition I would not consider including this in these recipes. The product I received has a best by date of 9 months from the date I received it. This is a Product of Japan. I think this is a delicious change from butter and jam and a new way to enjoy a piece of toast.
