How is this different than Steelcase Series 1?

Series 1 and Series 2 are great ergonomic chairs, both have a 400-lbs. weight capacity. They share the same type of adjustments (seat height, seat depth, adjustable arms; the back has the following adjustments: weight-activated setting; (2) boosted setting that has more resistance than your body is providing; and (3) an upright back lock setting.)

On Series 1 the arms are part of the back frame and it's back is constructed by back flexors, lumbar support and mesh. On Series 2 are installed on the seat pan, the back is designed with the Air LiveBack technology, this works through an innovative geometric design that flexes in two dimensions as the user moves to create responsive, personalized comfort and fit.

Series 2 back is available with only the Airback (not available with lumbar support), with the Airback and 3D Microknit (mesh; could include lumbar support), and the Airback with upholstery (cloth; could include lumbar support); please click on the links below to watch their corresponding adjustability guide videos.

Steelcase Series 2 features our signature Air LiveBack® technology, which works through an innovative geometric design that provides sophisticated support. The specially engineered wave pattern is scaled to provide support for each part of the spine, allowing it to flex in multiple dimensions to create responsive, personalized comfort and fit.

Additionally, the height-adjustable lumbar, responsive back tension, 4D adjustable arms, and adaptive seat bolstering ensure continuous comfort and ergonomic support up to 8 or 9 hours. It is however suggested to stand up / stretch every 2 or 3 hours.
