Works perfectly on our 2" square stair posts
We have 2" metal stair posts with wire rails and needed something that could easily attached to the posts to allow us to install a baby gate. This worked perfectly. It was easy and intuitive to install and is sturdy enough to support the weight of the baby gate, which was critical since we don't have a stud in the wall opposite the stair posts. Would recommend.

Pricey But Effective
I thought these were a bit pricey but needed something for installing pet gate at top of stairs with metal railing. I needed two and they cost more than the gate itself. I struggled with install because I had to cut the wooden piece shorter to fit on my railing. They work, and it’s a good idea, I just wish they were prettier, but they are definitely functional and the only way I could have installed the gate with my metal railing.

Might not work for spindles that are different widths
I used this to mount the KidCo Retractable Safeway Gate at the bottom of my stairs. A few things to note about this mounting kit: (1) My spindles are not the same shape and width at the top as they are at the bottom (round on top, square on bottom). This resulted in the mounting brackets not lining up for the attachment of the mounting board. Fortunately, the difference was not so much that I wasn’t able to make it work, but it was a close call. This kit definitely will work better for people whose spindles are the same shape and width all the way down the spindle. (2) The mounting board onto which you attach your gate is not very long. If you have a taller gate, you may need to attach it so that it floats/doesn’t touch the stair. You’ll want to think about this and do your measuring before to attach the board to the mounting brackets on your spindles. (3) The kit came with a bunch of things I didn’t need. The instructions were decent (with pictures!). It wasn’t totally clear which way the mounting brackets should face, but I figured it out. (4) The instructions don’t say to drill pilot holes in the mounting board, but I highly recommend it. Screwing the holes by hand will be difficult (I gave up quickly and grabbed the drill).
