The Art of the Publisher

and liked it so much that I bought a copy to ...
I came across the book at the library, and liked it so much that I bought a copy to give to a European publisher as a gift when we meet again at a conference in the USA. I found the book very inspirational, in the sense that I went out and read particular authors and book titles that otherwise would have escaped me. For that reason alone, it was a worthwhile read; though it was also exceptionally well written, and it felt good knowing that publishing can be an art. I think my friend in the scientific publishing business will get some new ideas and inspiration, too. Will see.

Calasso is one of the great current geniuses of Western culture and literature. He's also a publisher, and this book tells that story nicely.
