Essential water purification filter, lightweight & easy to use.
If you're into walking, hiking, camping, or other outdoor pursuits, this is an essential piece of kit to carry with you all the time. The water filter straw is lightweight, robust, and reusable for gaining potable water from almost any natural water source. The drinking tube is simple, straightforward forward and needs no setup and little maintenance. The tube is a basic combination of a microfilter fiber membrane and an antibacterial activated carbon filter to provide quality water when you suck water through the mouthpiece. Setup is simple, you attach the silicone extension tube to the input end, flip the protective cap off the mouthpiece and such in the water. The filter can also be attached to a water feed bottle or bag and a collection bottle like an old soft drinks container. This will allow a gravity feed to slowly collect the clean water ready for use and drinking. If the flow becomes slow or clogged, they advise you to blow through the device to clear the blockage before using it again. In use, the filter is pretty well instant to get water through. My advice is to try and select the cleanest water you can find, as this will allow the filter to operate more efficiently;y and get blocked less quickly. There is no access to the filter section inside the tube, so this thing is only good until the filter medium is exhausted. Initially, the water does taste a bit 'plasticky' especially if it's been in a hot place, but it's BPA-free, so this won't harm you and soon dissipates after a few mouthfuls of water. Looking at the filter quality is certainly does clean the scum, residue and fine particles from the water and also gives it a more healthy tasteCapacities look pretty impressive:Filter water up to 1500litresFlow rate 550ml/ minuteNo chemicals insideShelf life 5 yearsBPA free materialsQuality Water is the most important requirement for life. IF you're out and get dehydration, you could end up in trouble. Don't leave without one of these in your carry sack.

Good for emergency’s
I often go wild camping in the peaks and have to rely on water taken on route. For years I’ve always used a sawyer filter and have been happy with that. This is very similar, although I’d say it’s a little lighter and thinner than the one I have. You can drink straight from the source using the provided straw. Or do as I do with a spare bottle to collect the water and hang it from my walking pole to drip into another container. I prefer to let it drip through instead of forcing it through. Even then I would still only use the water once boiled. This does have an antibacterial filtrate but there’s only so much they can filter. I’d use these as a last resort if you are struggling for water, but I’d definitely recommend getting one if you do a lot of walking out in the wild. Once the filter becomes hard to filter you just back filter it with some clean water and it will be as good as new again.

Fantastic piece of kit
I’ve always been interested in these straw style filters sice they first came out. This filter, branded by Purewell, comes in a sealed plastic bag with the instructions on the back. The filter has a shelf life of 5 years, so make sure to make a note of its expirty date in your phone’s calendar. The instructions for use are printed on the back of the bag. The filter can be used in a number of ways. You can connect the supplied extension pipe to the bottom of the filter and drink directly from the top of it. You can also connect a plastic bottle of unfiltered water to the filter and either squeeze the water from the bottle, or suck it through. You can also connect a water bag to the filter, hang the bag up and let the water run through. The mouthpiece has a blue cap that fits over the top of it. This can be easily unclipped before use. It is attached to the filter housing, so you won’t lose it and it can be replaced again once you’ve finished drinking. The filter housing is a sturdy plastic. It feels strong enough to be able to place it in a bag without worrying about whether it will break or not. There is a thick, blue lanyard attached to the top of the filter, allowing you to hang it around your neck. The filter is small enough to be able to store it in a side pocket of a rucksack. I have included a photo of the filter next to my iPhone 13 Pro Max. The plastic extension tube is the same length as the filter itself. Without a proper water testing kit, it’s impossible to say how well the filter works. If I get giardia or amoebic dysentry (trust me - I’ve had them both and know what they’re like!!), I’ll update the review and let you know! If you found this review useful, informative and / or enjoyable to read, please give that ‘helpful’ button a click.

Worked for two days, now tastes bad!
I was very excited when I set this up. Now, three days on the taste of chlorine has come back and I am scared to use it and don’t know what to do!!I shall be sending off water for testing to see what is going on. Just so CONfusing.

Easy to use and very portable
I’ve been looking into getting one of these for a while now and was looking forward to testing this bit of kit out. Planning to do a walk along the west highland way this year and thought having one of these for a back up would be a good idea. Testing this at home just now as it’s a bit cold for the west highland way this time of year but I love the fact it’s compact so easily portable and will be put into my walking bag for the trip. The system is so easy to use. Push the pipe onto the bottom of the filter so it’s snug and secure then dip the pipe into the water and start drinking. The water is filters as it rises through the pipe. It’s not difficult to drink and seems to work surprisingly well. You can also attach the hose to a water bladder or remove the hose entirely and screw on a plastic juice bottle and turn the unit upside down to filter out water from the bottle into some other container. This method is great if your cooking or making tea. Certainly the perfect item for anyone planning trips away from everyday shops and coffee stops. Very happy with this straw.
