Q: What is the best way to remove these without damaging the wall?

Use a piece of fish line or monofilament or dental floss to cut between the hook and wall. Clean off remaining adhesive with Goo Gone.

Q: Which size and type of 3M command strips work best with this?

To be clear, these come with permanent adhesive already attached. I removed that and added 3m removable ones instead. The wood pieces are decent size, so you'd probably want to choose the adhesive strips based on the weight limit they hold.

Q: i would use these outside by the hot tub, and so need to drill through them with a screw to attach to wood posts. Do you think that would work?

I think it would definitely work. Keep in mind they are real wood so being exposed to weather will wear them fairly quick.

Q: Are these sanded down not to be too sharp to hand a microfiber hair towel on?

Very smooth, I tried a microfiber towel and no problem. Btw, I love them and think they look awesome.
