This stuff is amazing both for cats and humans
This stuff is amazing both for cats and humans! It was suggested to us when we had a sick stray cat at the Vet that had mouth ulcers. Very common in outdoor cats that have Feline Hepes Virus, is what I was told. It appears to be working well on the ones that have been having runny eyes too and with in two days we noticed a drastic improvement! They all seem to be feeling better. I am using it to help boost my immune system and help with my osteoporosis, but to soon to tell yet for me. But I will keep taking it because I'm sure that I'm lacking Lysine due to my diet not containing enough meat and the fact that our bodies dont produce it, so I've been told. (I AM NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR OR VET. so PLEASE consult yours prior to use and DON'T just go by my opinion!) Just be aware that it can cause kidney stones and to consult your Vet and M.D. prior to use if theres any chance for kidney failure, just to be on the safe side. I am VERY HAPPY with this product and it is easy to use and the cats dont know when I mix it in the wet food. (It would be nice if it came with a measuring spoon) Great Value! Over 800 1/4 tsp. servings per container.

Wouldn't be without lysine.
This is good stuff! I ALWAYS keep some at my house. Saves me on both dr & vet bills if used at right times & for right things. Water soluble & pretty harmless even if took too much, excess passes out thru urine. It's an amino acid that's natural for the body as opposed to an un-natural chemical concocked in a lab. I love that it's such a safe thing to use for my pets! Sprinkled lightly on kitty's food or in water bowl helps keep cats healthy when there's cat illness going around. Helps them recover when they get sneezing/runny nose/& cold symtoms easier & faster than w/o lysine. Boosts the immune system. Does for me too if start feeling under the weather, & if anyone has cold sores or facial herpes it's the go to for that too. I use this if I've been around coughing/sneezing/ or obviously sick people to prevent getting sick. Vet prescribed it for my dog that had recurring auto-immune reated ear infections & He got daily tablet of this for life w/ good results. Good for people & their cats & dogs too! But if you use this for cats or dogs, please look up the proper mg doses & measure this out appropriately. It's easy to do right; about 1/8-1/4 tsp for cat depending on problem & severity; & tiny dogs. My dog was 90 lbs & took human doses of lysine. I like the tablets best for me & my large dog, but the powder is most convenient & easiest form for cats, kittens, small dogs & puppies. And NOW brand is the only brand I use because I know NOW brand actually has in it what it says it has! Look it up & you can find out how different brands stack up when tested for that. NOW can be trusted for quality & ingredients.

Worked much better than Viralys
I’d been using this for my rescued kitty who is about a year and a half now. Weepy eye from FHV. Rescue told me it would clear up (but did not mention FHV) and not to get the eye meds unless I had to, because it was expensive. (It was not expensive. It was $20. But I didn’t get it thinking her eye would clear up as they said. It did not, and consequently there appears to be damage in the tear duct as it doesn’t drain properly. If I’d treated her sooner there’s no doubt she’d be in better shape now. This rescue was teaching their adopters to be cheap with their new family member! This is a true disservice to my little girl whose quality of life would be much improved today if I’d just cared for her properly by getting this eye meds immediately. Very disappointed in that rescue.) I have purchased another container of the NOW lysine and will keep using it going forward. My vet has said she “thinks” it is FHV but no way to confirm. A friend recommended the lysine and it has done wonders. My vet never mentioned lysine. Antibiotics and eye drops really not much help. My little girl is doing well now, once I get her back on the NOW lysine. Anecdote: I’d been giving this to all my cats. I adopted another kitten at the same time - a fluffy grayish boy who may have some Russian blue in him. I learned that lysine can counteract L-arginine absorption in cats which is needed for proper urinary health. Given that Russian blues have urinary tracts issues, I stopped giving this to my male cat. He seems healthy and though he previously had a cough, he seems to have no problem with FHV so I am no longer treating him with lysine. He and our older cat did develop respiratory symptoms but they seem to have cleared the virus. Just a heads up that lysine may cause issues in cats that have urinary tract issues.

This works great for cats!
I have had great success using this product. I was using a different L-lysine product for many years and switched to this brand several months ago. It is an extremely good value and works exactly the same as the other L-lysine product I used for years. The value is exceptional. My veterinarian suggested L-lysine for my cat and this is what I use it for. He has a type of feline herpes and it affects his eyes. When he has an outbreak his eyes will be extremely teary and crusty. They also get very swollen. As long as I use the L-lysine supplement his eyes will stay clear about 90-95% of the time. I'm so glad I found this brand, which lasts a lot longer and costs a lot less than the one I was using before. My cat is very finicky and he always eats this. I sprinkle the recommended dose on his wet food. There is no scoop included in this so I calculated the dose and figured it to be almost exactly the same as the other brand I was using. I just kept the little plastic scoop from the other container. The best way I can describe the color and consistency of this product is that it's similar to a powdered laundry detergent. The other brand was just like this. It also has a fishy smell, and as I have already stated, my cat gobbles it right up. I would definitely recommend this product for this purpose.

Trustworthy quality, a little coarse for felines
We use l-lysine to help suppress the symptoms of our cat with feline herpes. When he's on a regular dose (a higher dose of 500 mg, 2x/day), his runny/ulcerated eyes are calm and clear, and his wet sneezing is down to a minimum. First we tried the goopy paste from the vet's office ( Enisyl-F (L-Lysine) Nutritional Supplement for Cats, Metered Dose Pump 100 mL ) but my cat was having none of that! The taste, the texture...something about that paste was off-putting to him. Lysine powder works great, and offers great savings. I tasted the powder myself--a little bitter, but in a highly-flavored wet food, it didn't seem to bother our cat. Opening l-lysine capsules and mixing the powder into his wet food worked just fine but got expensive after a while. Plus, all of those gelatin capsules were just wasteful (and annoying). Details: * This 1 lb. bottle of pharmaceutical grade (USP) l-lysine monohydrochloride contains 822 1/4 teaspoon servings. * A level 1/4 teaspoon of powder = 435 mg of lysine. (It's important to measure properly when dosing your cat; consult your vet for the right dose for your cat.) * This "powder" is far more granular/coarse than the powder in gelatin capsules: think a slightly finer laundry powder or coarse-ground black pepper. You will likely need to serve this in wet food, even if just a dollop of highly-flavored wet food to bind the granules. (This coarseness is why I dropped the score one star; a finer powder is slightly easier to mix in and mask.) * The container is naturally larger than the average vitamin bottle. Envision the dimensions of a canister of oats, and you're close. * The powder is sold by weight and settles in the bottle. You may want to transfer some of the powder to an empty vitamin bottle (not clear) for easier reach of the measuring spoon. NOW Foods is a good, reliable brand with a solid reputation. If you're looking for an affordable and easy way to help your cat with feline herpes, you really can't go wrong with this product.

Great for People and specifically Cars!
I have been using Now brand products for over a decade and L lysine is one that we use often. We use this for our immune system in the fall winter months. We take a teaspoon in some grape juice and just drink it down. One of the amazing things about L lysine is its ability to amazingly help heal Cats with infections of all sorts. Cat sanctuaries all over the world use L lysine for cats healing and wellness. If one of our cats get sick, I put a half a teaspoon in some of their wet food mix it up really good and they eat it right up. You can also add a few drops of apple cider vinegar with the mother. Braggs it’s a good brand.. Also grapefruit seed extract is a natural antibiotic, and we put several drops in their wet food along with the L lysine powder. Great for dogs as well.. using the same remedies! I have a lot of knowledge in natural remedies and supplements and firmly believe in them L lysine is also sold in the pet version, but it’s the same thing as the people version and the people version of supplements is always much cheaper than the pet version. I’ve seen major price difference time and time again in so many of the people and pet products. I highly recommend l lysine for your and your pets health!

Too Coarse for Use with Cats
Short Version: Pros: -Trustworthy brand -Cats don't mind eating it -Would work if you mix into wet cat food Cons: -Very coarse texture -You have to use more because it doesn't stick -Doesn't stick to dry food because of the coarse texture Long Review: I volunteer for a cat rescue, and we use L-Lysine frequently as a supplement on the cats food. It's vital to kitties with lowered immune systems, cats with a cold and for kitties that suffer from Feline Herpes. I have always previously used NutroBio L-Lysine powder, but with shipping it was almost $22, while this now product was the same amount of product for about $16, including shipping. I love the Now products that I use personally, so I was excited to see that this product was cheaper, and still from another brand I trust. The product itself seems to be high quality, and it seems effective as far as its ingredients go. However, it is way too coarse and I'm having a hard time getting enough into the cat's diet. If I mixed it in wet food, it perhaps wouldn't be a problem, but due to the number of cats we free feed dry all day, and have the best chance of getting constant, consistent L-Lysine doses in them if we put it on the dry food. The coarseness of this product means it doesn't stick to the dry food very well, so I end up with the coarse powder collecting at the bottom of the bowl, instead of getting into the kitties. The other product I have used was a very fine grain, and it would dust over the dry food and stick easily. It would be a waste to throw out the product, so I have started mixing in some coconut oil on the dry food, and then coating it with the L-Lysine, so it sticks a little bit better. I still have to use more of the product per day than I would have the other product, in hopes to get the normal amount to stick. So, the cost between this brand and the NutroBio is probably a wash because of that and the added cost of the oil.
