The Singles Collection

I don't think any singles emerged from Girlschool's one-off Mercury disc (where they glammed up and rocked less-hard). So that album, Running Wild,(as always) gets skipped over but every other single up to the "Take A Bite" era is here. (Were there more singles off "Take a Bite" than noted here? I thought there were.)It's chronologically correct so that pleases the collector in me.It's redundant enough to give you both versions of 1-2-3-4 Rock and Roll and both versions of "Take It All Away".The liner notes are adequate; more a fold out poster than the normal booklet. There is a description of each single and the 45's front sleeve is shown.The line-ups are described and you get all the info.The re-mastering seems to be adequate and most fans will be happy with this.It does seem like a rehash of The Collection only minus album tracks and the non-single Live Cuts.Fans will buy it. girlschool: the singles is a excellent collection of their best hits. includes the a and b sides of such solid hard rock classics as "race with the devil", "hit and run", "don't call it love", "action", "nothing to lose" etc. these girls from britain rock as hard and fast as the male heavy metal rockers do. they are for my money, the greatest hard rock/heavy metal all girl band ever. they are similar to the runaways, but with a harder faster tone. every song on this collection is excellent. if want hard rockin songs to rock out to, this is a collection for you. awesome stuff.

These girls could rock this is a great selection each one a classic so if you like The Runaways, Vixen or The Donnas then get this and enjoy these chicks just going hard out thats why Lemmy from Motorhead is a fan so listen and you will be too.

I had only ever heard Yeah Right on limited airplay in Australia when it was released in 1980. I had heard nothing else from them down here since. What a find this album has been, one great track after another through the years and, most importantly, finding out about Kelly Johnson, her awesome playing and her untimely death. To all lovers of hard rockin', great playing, DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND BUY THIS ALBUM!!!! Check out 'LEGEND', the Kelly Johnson tribute album as well. Another 'must have'!!

[...]Here again America, is an example of a killer rock band that has slipped into obscurity, simply because they don't sell albums in this country. GIRLSCHOOL is an all girl band that could definately rough you up. They know how to kick ace. Sometimes referred to as the female versions of Motorhead, and sometimes just your typical late seventies, early eighties female glam act, but usually, ripping deisel from your speakers, it's time you let them take you to school.This is the singles collection. It's not my first choice, but is a pretty solid deal, for a two disc retrospective of the bands catalougue. You will have a hard time finding proper albums at any value, since they are all imported.This is well worth it. Not many girl groups legitamatly know how to rock and roll, but there are a certain few. Singles collection shows a number of the groups shining moments, but if you like what you hear, I would recommend finding some of the bands more hard hitting discs, like HIT AND RUN or DEMOLITION. For now though, this outta turn up your juice.Later...

This band is one of the best metal bands ever imo. THey are just great melodic metal. Their best stuff is their first four cd's but that doesn't mean that they made bad stuff later on. They made three great releases in the last decade alone. 'not that innocent' , 'believe' and 'legacy' all of them returned the band to greatness. Although sadly the lead guitarist died of cancer recently. But these songs are from their 80's heyday. This one is for people who are not that aquainted with this cool band. However if you can get 'demolition' , 'hit and run' , scraming blue murder' and 'play dirty' you'll have some real classic metal to enjoy. those were their 80's peak releases. singles from those 4 are mainly on here as well as a few others single only releases. Go girls go!anyways I had this one and then got all of their releases and I am glad I did. because gs rocks hard and well as good as any male metal band out there.

Total of thirty-seven tracks spanning Girlschool's entire career with reportedly every A and B side of every 7" single they ever put out. Had NO idea they released so many, but the again I'm in the states where we're lucky to find - say two of their titles in the independent stores (of the few that's left). So may killer tunes here to thoroughly take in - such as "Emergency", "Nothing To Lose", their should-have-made them a household name "Race With The Devil", Motorhead's "Bomber", two versions of ZZ Top's "Tush", their T. Rex cover "20th Century Boy", "Don't Stop", the rocking "Like It Like That", "Never Too Late" and many more. An absolute must-have.

Although there are more versatile and creative female rockers from the 80s such as Christie Hinde, Pat Benatar, Joan Jet and Lita Ford. Girlschool is a kickass band who can play with most guys band. Their collaboration with Motor head is outstanding.Let's see if the intriguing Savages will meet the expectations

Great singles CD. First got into Girlschool after watching a documentary, Breakfast With Girlschool in 1984. About the typical day to day life of a Female Heavy Metal Band! Waking up at 3pm (early in their eyes) and their life style. Obviously not to be taken too seriously! Clips of gigs at the Marquee Club London. Liked their Style, Sound and Music. Brought a cd of them in the late eighties/ nineties. Tracks on this new CD not on my other one. Along with Rock Goddess two great female bands that give their male counterparts a run for their money. Would highly recommend CD and seller.

I bought this album for one particular track but was pleased to find that both cd's were great music throughout. An excellent buy.

Excellent compilation of singles from a brilliant all female group, however I feel that one version of Gary Glitter's "I'm the leader of the gang" would have been adequate and maybe replaced by the studio version of Demolition, otherwise I am very pleased with the collection.

I overlooked Girlschool originally and only really took notice when they collaborated with Motorhead. I chose this CD as an ideal sampler and was totally impressed. The selection is excellent and the price is a steal.
