Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, 12 oz. – Dermatitis and Demodectic Mange, White (DM150 12)

It’s been 10 days today and the mange is almost gone. I used a combination of DermaPet" Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo (DermaBenSS); Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs, and Nu-Stock. I’ll outline what I did in a second. Some background: My 10 year old boxer contracted what looked to be demodectic mange. She got bumps on her skin, some large, some smaller. They would start leaking pus, then crust over, and when they scabs came off, she’d have a dark, calloused patch of bald skin. She wasn’t terribly itchy. And she didn’t get stinky. The sores were mostly on her back. Granted, this wasn’t the worst case of mange, by a longshot. She’d recently had two procedures under general anesthesia and I wasn’t keen on the idea of subjecting her toxic dips and other potentially harmful meds, especially given her age. So first I tried the Listerine & baby oil route. Didn’t really help. Then I switched to Borax, hydrogen peroxide and water. That helped a little, but I had to go out of town for a week and couldn’t treat her. When I got back, she looked worse and had more bald patches. She also had a new oozing sore. I read up on Amazon and chose the four products I mentioned earlier: DermaPet" Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo (DermaBenSS); Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs, and Nu-Stock. First, I washed her as directed with the benzoyl peroxide shampoos. These shampoos are supposed to flush the pores out and clean out the gunk. I used this step to essentially prep her skin for the following two steps. FYI – DermaBenSS lathers up more and has a coconut-y scent, but Davis seems just as good. I used a little of both. I didn’t need a lot of shampoo. Just remember, these shampoos don’t lather up like regular shampoo, so don’t keep putting it on thinking you need more. I think of this stuff more like a benzoyl peroxide face wash. (Those don’t really later up either.) I kept the shampoo on for 10 minutes, massaging the shampoo into her fur (not scrubbing – I didn’t want to hurt her). Then we rinsed. It’s very easy to rinse off if you don’t gob it on. After that, I used the Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs. This one lathers up much more. I think the benzoyl peroxide shampoos really allowed this stuff to get in and work its magic. I followed the directions and kept it on for 15 minutes. It smells medicine-y. Again, massaging it into her fur. After that, we rinsed and towel dried, then pup shook and rubbed against the length of the furniture a dozen or so times. After she dried off a bit more, I put out a waterproof blanket and got out the Nu-Stock. I read lots of reviews about the smell so I was expecting something horrible. It’s not perfume, that’s for sure, but it’s really not as bad as I expected. It smells pine-y and medicine-y, with a bit of sulfur in there. It dries chalky and it can be greasy, so be careful of your furniture. That’s why I put the waterproof picnic blanket on my bed. I applied Nu-Stock directly to her new sores and recent scars, but also spread it over her back where there were quite a few recent scabs. I did this by thinning the Nu-Stock with baby oil, and using an old hair dye brush to make sure the solution got in good contact with her skin. The Nu-Stock sticks pretty well, so your pup might look a little odd with the yellow stuff on her coat. Again, I think the benzoyl peroxide shampoo helped prepare her skin so she could get the full benefit of this product. I repeated this process every three days. On the third and fourth washes, I started using a washcloth to make sure every part of her skin was cleaned properly. Again, not scrubbing, just washing gently. All told, she’s been washed and treated with Nu-Stock 4 times. And OH WHAT A DIFFERENCE. 1. No new sores have popped up, for the first time since she contracted this horrible condition 2. The open sores have healed with new pink skin, not the dark, calloused hard skin that usually appeared when scabs fell off 3. Hair is growing back nicely – even on the older scars This treatment actually makes her coat shiny. Today, she actually seemed like she felt better after her bath – she was romping around like a puppy. I am so grateful to these companies for their amazing products. I think using all these products in tandem made for my pup’s quick recovery. I’m never going without these. As long as I have a fur baby, my cupboard will be stocked with these fantastic products!

Got for my 16 pound fawn pug who has really sensitive skin. She was missing chunks of fur, red irradiated skin, biting her paws, legs, back area to the point she was bleeding. The condition came on all of a sudden I wasn't that concerned at first because I thought it was just a allergy flair up that happens around this time of year. Their was no change in her diet so that was what I thought just seasonal allergies. My sister volunteers at a animal shelter and she lives with me so maybe it was something that she brought home. I'm still not sure what it is the vet just gave me a lime dip and said to come back if that didn't stop the problem as they couldn't find anything on the skin scrape. So I racked my brain and searched the Internet in hopes of doing my own research and finding something else that'd help. I looked through the comments on amazon for the dechra limedip (that's what I was given by the vet) and someone mentioned they used this the Davis benzoyl peroxide shampoo for dogs, for a dog with mange and helped heal that. So I thought it's probably worth trying since the vets office wasn't that helpful and I couldn't afford to go see another vet after spending $247 there and basically nothing done for my sweet dog. The $10 for this is soo worth the money. It has helped so much her hair has grown back and her skin is not inflamed and doesnt have any red coloration any longer. Her scabs are healing great. For how I used this: I followed directions exactly how they were written on the bottle. I put her in the tub and worked it in her problem areas and covered her in it. (Has a milky, wet texture and doesn't lather very well so you'll use a lot more than you think you'll use. In my opinion it smelled of something like pool cleaning chemicals. But not very bad and is tolerable.) I left it on her for 10 minutes to let it penatrate her skin. I rinsed it off and she immediately felt some relief which made me happy. My dog is very calm and lazy so if you have a hyper dog I wish you luck getting them to stay still for 10 minutes LOL. I waited until the next day and used the dechra limedip afterwards I was very skeptical but after 3 times of using these 2 things together ( I shampoo her twice a week and the dip once a week) she is well on her way to recovery. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AFTER USING THIS SHAMPOO LET YOUR DOG AIR DRY TO KEEP AS MUCH PRODUCT ON THE DOG AS POSSIBLE AND YOU'LL BE MUCH HAPPIER WITH THE RESULTS. I also started giving her a daily multivitamin that helps her start staying alert, and having more energy. I would recommend if you have a tough problem with your dog's skin buy the limedip on here and it will save you so much money it's $17 something on here I believe and I believe I payed about $40 at the vet for the exact same product.

I was recommended this for a skin condition my dog has. He has allergies and can get frequent yeast on his back. I used this and it did seem to help the smell that can be associated with yeast and it helped with the oily coat but I had to use a combination of things to get rid of the yeast. I think this is a great product and could work wonders for milder cases.

We just adopted a rescue pitty from a local shelter. Due to Covid, we were not able to meet her inside, only outside, so it wasn’t until we were in the car that I realized how badly she stunk! Very “yeasty” with a very oily/greasy “cast” on her coat. I went straight to the dog wash place and gave her a bath, but it did nothing for her stink. I did some research, and think she might have a fungal infection (we have an appointment at the vet later this week). One article I read from a vet said to first wash the dog with a “degreaser “ shampoo with benzoyl peroxide. I found this shampoo and an anti fungal treatment. Next day delivery. It was on my doorstep when I got home from work. I got my dog and headed for the shower. I followed the directions, allowing the shampoo to sit on her for ten minutes. It improved the “greasiness “ of her coat a bit, but not enough, so I washed her again, allowing the shampoo to sit for another ten minutes. This time there was a NOTICEABLE a improvement in the feel of her coat, and in her odor. I then washed her with the ani fungal, leaving that on for ten minutes as well. I am thrilled with the results. She still has a slight musk, hopefully that will go away with the treatment of her infection, but this shampoo really cut through the greasy “cast” on her coat and allowed the anti fungal to get to her skin. It doesn’t lather as a shampoo you are used to, and smells just like the acne face wash I used as a teenager.

Terriers Breeds especially West Highland Terriers have and unusual under coat of hair on their backs, that goes from the base of the tail to their necks, These hairs are prone to becoming ingrown in the hair follicle, Which causes painful and itchy puss filled bumps similar to what is known as Razor Bumps from Shaving too close, We tried everything to get rid if them, including draining them and pulling the caught hair out, which will then let the bump heal and disappear. Then we read about this Shampoo, so I ordered a bottle, And sure enough, after the third shampoo the Bumps began to open up and drain by themselves and heal up. From what I have read the Benzoyl Peroxide does the same thing as when you pour Peroxide on a Scrape or cut and it Bubbles when it comes in contact with the Blood or infection, In this case the B/P Shampoo breaks open the Clogged Infected Hair Follicle, which then lets the entrapped hair and infection drain. Just so you know, One shampoo isn't going to give you instant results, You will need to do it 3 or 4 times before you start to see result, but once it breaks down the Clogged Pores you will see them drain and oozing the infection out, Then after you have the problem under control you will only need to use it once a week to keep the Follicles clean and open, I would also recommended that if you do use another type of Shampoo between treatments, make sure it doesn't have any added oils or greasy conditioners that will clog up the pores again.

I used this to treat my dog's pyroderma, started by an allergic reaction to a bug bite. I was using some Pyroderm that I bought here a couple of years ago for a different dog. That was no longer available, so I tried this. It works OK, but is really medicinal-smelling. The Pyroderm does not smell nearly this bad. My dog is plus-sized (150 lbs), so I need one bottle per shampoo. I am also trying a different brand to see if it also smells bad. My vet is fine with me buying on-line vs. their office, but I may go there if the other shampoo (Vetoquinol Benzoyl-Plus Shampoo) also smells this bad. UPDATE: Although this is cheaper, the smell was so bad that I switched to another brand, Vetoquinol Benzoyl-Plus Shampoo for Dogs & Cats. This was so bad that, although I was supposed to bathe him 2-3 times/week, I bathed him again the next day. I wouldn't say that it smells great, but it is way, way better than this.

I have been battling Demodex Mange on my two cats and dog for months now. What started as a horrific flea infestation turned to mites. I have tried treatment after treatment with no improvement for months. I stumbled upon a home remedy for mange using borax and vinegar (or peroxide depending on preference) and started having success with that. However, I didn't feel like I was really penetrating the hair follicles and all the places the mites like to hide with regular pet shampoo. I bought this after reading the reviews and researching the ingredients. I have used it once. I lathered all the animals up, let it sit for five minutes for the cats and ten for my dog then rinsed very well. I then poured my borax and vinegar mixture over them, wrapped them in towels and let them dry. I topically applied Scabisil, another product I found on Amazon to treat mites, to the worst of the irritation and on their faces were I did not wash with the shampoo. As of this morning the cat who had the worst scabs is starting to shed her scabs and she was not frantically itching herself. My dog doesn't have scabs anymore after treating with the borax and vinegar but she did have problem spots under her armpits and around her ears that were still red, flaky and sensitive. The flakes are gone and her skin no longer has an angry red hue. It's pink and she is itching substantially less. They didn't experience the dry skin like other reviews said, however I have only used this once and it may also be attributed to the moisturizing and Ph balancing effect from the vinegar which I apply to their coats after using the shampoo. I am planning to use this once a week until I see no more symptoms and then after that, will use it once a month to keep the mites at bay. Once you have mites, you always have mites. One last comment. This shampoo doesn't have a bad chemical smell like most other pet shampoo's for treating skin conditions. It's barely scented at all which I was glad of because both my cats are picky about scents. Update 2/16/2016- After three baths using this shampoo, my dog has no visible signs of demodex mange. My cats, who are slightly harder to bathe, still have a few scabs around their faces and I am treating those with Scabisil. My dog did experience some dryness after the last bath but we used a leave in pet conditioner and she's fine now. I strongly recommend this product to anyone who has been struggling with Demodex Mange and wants to give their pets relief. It works when nothing else would.

Skin disorder in my dogs skin, the shampoo is doing wonders the best, if there was one a little stronger I would like to try that. Cheers Heidi Crane

Please please please do NOT use this stuff on your fur babies! We tried this crap to help with our dogs itchy skin and this is what this stuff did to him! $2000 later in vet bills and we still cannot stabilize him.
