I paired this 3/4 weight reel with a Fenwick World Class 6-piece, 8-ft rod and it balances very well. I wanted a smaller weight reel/rod setup that is easy to carry through woods and fish on smaller mountain streams in PA. Used it recently on the Lehigh River as a test (a larger waterbody than what I bough it for) and it casts very well. The fly line, backing and tapered leader is already included which is a nice bonus. The only thing I have to do is reverse the line because I cast with my left arm (my stronger arm) and reel with my right hand and this handle is on the left. The only minor issue is that the drag doesn't adjust correctly. At the highest setting, the reel doesn't even turn. The range of drag is way too broad. I only use the lowest 2 clicks, if that makes sense. I think there are 10 click settings. Overall, a very good reel that comes prespooled for less than $30.

Took this to Colorado and fished the feeder waters of the Arkansas. It did an excellent jog and was size appropriate (3/4wt) for the smaller fish we were catching ( 6” to 15” trout). The pre- strung line worked effectively. For the money you can’t beat it! Why did you pick this product vs others?: Price and research Size: 3/4

Product is what you pay for. I purchased this reel because I wanted to fly fish while another reel was being shipped. I have no complaints with it, it gets the job done. I was fishing for small rainbow and brown trout, it worked great. It’s not the best but not the worst. You get what you pay for, no issues with it fighting fish, the only complaint I have is that I dipped it under freshwater and the next time I used it, it was a bit rusty and not as smooth, nothing really that was bad, maybe even my own fault but i assumed fly reels can go under freshwater and be fine. I just cleaned it out with a q tip and it was good as new. That’s my only concern but I’d still buy again. Comes with line and backing ready to go. Great value for the money. You don’t need expensive gear to have fun or catch fish

I purchased this fly reel to do some flyfishing for panfish and small bass. Received the reel and was impressed at the quality of the materials for the price. Has a nice weight to it. The line that comes on the reel is good and does what I need. The drag system is OK but not great which is good cause it's for small fish. The main problem I have and why I can't give it a 5star rating is due to the fact that it literally reels itself in as you are making your false cast. And that becomes a problem when you strip off plenty of line to reach your target area or fish, and when youake the shoot, you fall short and loose the fish. Gonna try to reach out to the company for a fix. I will keep everyone posted. Update: shortly after this review, maxcatch reached out to me wanting to make the situation right. They sent a second reel out at no charge. Unfortunately, the new reel does the same thing straight out of the box. But, I will say that it is no where near as bad as the original. And because of how quickly they got back with me and offered to do what they can to make it right, I am changing my review rating to a 4 star. If there was a way to make it a 4.5 I would. I just can't give a 5 because to me, the product and company would have to be almost perfect. And yes, I do recommend this product as well as their flyrods.

When receiving the reel I noticed that it did not come in a bag, or even bubble wrap. The black plastic drag adjustment knob is pretty scuffed up, but this does not affect the function of the reel. I do think that the reel should be better protected in the box though. The finish on the reel (silver) is acceptable, but it does have its rough spots here or there. For the price I can live with it. I may be sanding it down and painting it in the future anyway. Also when removing the spool I noted that there was no grease on the bearings inside of the spool. This was remedied easily with a dab of reel grease, but I think it would be better done in the factory to protect the parts themselves. The drag knob has a nice subtle click to it when increasing or decreasing the drag. The drag does seem to be adjusting well with every click and does not have a sudden jump from minimal drag to max drag. Overall I'm happy with the adjust-ability of the drag on this reel. There is no clicking when reeling in and you can "wing" the spool around freely when reeling it in. Reel was received left hand retrieve and the line looks to have been spooled taught and level. I don't see anywhere weather the line is 7w or 8w, but it seems to be 7w if I had to guess. The pre-installed leader is nail knotted to the fly line. There is no welded loop on the front of the fly line and I have not unspooled the entire line to see if there is a loop on the back. I will be putting some super glue on the nail knot as it doesn't look to be done already. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and looking forward to taking it out for a field test. Some of the quality issues are to be expected for a reel that was under $40 with line pre spooled, but for the money it is more than good enough to get you out there fishing.
