It says 7" is the length of the blade. The blade is the part that cuts. Sadly, I did not receive a 7" blade but a 3 & 3/8" blade. The length of the whole blade + the handle is approximately 8". The length in which they open up completely where they rest on the thumb guards is 7". I'm planning to refute the product due to this problem and see if they'll send me the proper blade length because I didn't get what was advertised. Just be wary. The size of the finger holes is 7/8" in diameter. I hope this info helps. ps. they ship from hong kong despite me thinking they were from Japan since they claim to use "Japanese steel".

Can they be used to trim poodle hair?

I have an English Angora rabbit I think their hair(fur) is about the same so I would say yes.
