This was for my son who is a Boy Scout. It served him well on the Appalachian Trail, and it really is amazing how compact the unit is when you think of everything that is included. He reports that everything worked well and was higher quality than his last mess kit. I may need to “borrow” this from him. This is perfect for scouts or anyone backpacking. Now stop reading reviews and buy this already!

This kit has more than enough stuff to get you through a camping trip. It packs down pretty small. The pot lid speeds up boiling. The utensils are very sturdy feeling. The added burner is a huge plus, and an extra carabiner is nice too. Very good value.I originally thought the handles might be a silicone or rubberized material, but they are hard plastic which is a bummer. Makes the handles a little hot. We will see if they hold up

I've run white gas stoves for going on 30 years now. Dependable, fit in the pot, sooty, sometimes clogs, and heavy fuel. They are a safe option. This stove and pot combination are a very different animal. The pots are fine, I'm not a huge fan of plastic handle covers but they do the job. The included utensils and cups are serviceable. Half the weight of my old stainless cook pot.The stove itself is a wonder. Amazingly tiny. Igniter works great. Supports the pot, barely. Simmers nicely and pours on the heat when you ask for it. Much noisier than my old white gas stove. It's also a lot faster to boiler water than my old stove. I don't think this stove will put up with much abuse. You pay for that light weight in a more delicate nature.Overall, I think this is a good buy. It's a complete meal kit for a new backpacker at a price that won't break the bank. Recommended.

I wanted to take a moment to write a review for this, after we had a chance to use it. I bought this for my son to use for his scouting trips. They backpack, hike, and camp every single month. I have purchased name brand mess kits before which are extremely expensive. I wanted to try something less expensive to compare. I could not be more pleased with my purchase. There were so many items it came with all were exceptional quality. We had a slight staining on one of the spoons which should not have happened. I contacted the company. They offered to send a replacement at no cost to us. They not only sent the replacement spoon, they also sent the spark to go with it. Very good company to purchase from. I will be recommending this set to all of the new scouts in our troop. The only thing we did not get to use yet was the stove. I will update the review when we have a chance to use that.

I thought this looked like a good set and the reviews were positive, so I decided to give it a try. This set is better than I anticipated! Everything fits together in a nice, compact package and the cookware is non-stick! The bowls are the perfect size for a single serving of oatmeal (and the collapsible ladle is the perfect size to get the right amount of water for the oatmeal packs! 2 ladles full of boiling water per packet of oatmeal, let it sit for a minute or 2 and you're ready to eat!) It even comes with it's own collapsible stove that fits into the kit. I would recommend buying a propane-to-lindle valve adapter (just because propane is so much cheaper than iso butane). Overall, I love this kit!

I loved using this kit. I took it camping on the Delaware river and it worked great for everything food prep related. The gas burner is awesome. Boiled water no problem, easy to start compact and just worked flawlessly. Great buy for any camping. We used the burner because not all areas/campsites allowed fires also super simple to pull this out and cook them to gather wood and have to wait.

I've never done any serious camping before, and I'm waiting to go when it gets a little warmer. After opening it and checking it out, here are my thoughts:Pros:-Super light weight-Holy heck I did not expect the bonus stovetop to be so compact! It folds into that little orange box in the picture.-The stovetop features a little button that will generate an igniting spark-The firestarter comes with a striking stick and I had no problems getting it to spark-The utensils are well made-You get so much for such a small price tag-My favorite premium instant ramen fits perfectly in the pot so I'm probably gonna use this at home.The cons:-I did a scratch test on the pot with one of the utensils.. it's now got a nifty scratch right in the very center...-the plastic handles seem like they'd melt if I put it on a good sized campfire-I really don't like the finish on the pot and pan. It feels cheap-The bowls are super tiny-The bamboo spoon thing is so stumpy there's not much point. I guess go for it if you don't want to scratch up the surface with the metal utensils..Overall I can't wait to try this in the field.

I got much more than I bargained for! This lightweight, compact kit includes eating tools and a fuel powered backpacking burner, fuel purchased seperately. However, the spark device leaves a bit to be desired. Overall, I feel I got a neat little outdoor cooking setup and a great bargain for the price. Recommended.
